Apparently they were very enthusiastic in cancelling revenue stamps.

re: R145 RISING STAR CANCEL

Hi David,

It is not my stamp. It belongs to Dan who I believe is on this forum. I am quite certain he would not be willing to part ways with it.

re: R145 RISING STAR CANCEL

Smauggie is absolutely correct.... I would not part with mine. Big Grin

The OP's example is a fantastic find for $5. Probably worth $150-175 at retail. The number of discernable strikes of the cancel impact the value. Based on what I have seen Eric and Richard price these at, I value my example at $250 (6 strikes as opposed to 4 on the OP's example, plus my stamp is well centered). At public auction it might go higher.

Also, examples on 2nd and 3rd issue revenues tend to go for more than examples on 1st issue, especially if they are in contrasting ink colors to that of the stamp itself. For example, most PMSS cancels on 2nd issue stamps tend to be in blue ink, which is not as dramatic of an impact as when in magenta ink (very scarce compared to the cancel in blue).
