I'm very pleased to let you know that we've once again seen quite a lot of activity publishing to our articles section with five new postings this week well worth your attention.

Soyuz Flights to the International Space Station by John Macco

John has contributed another survey of Russian space history as reflected in commemorative covers. Here John chronicles the flights to the International Space Station from 2000 to 2008, illustrated with an impressive assemblage of philatelic memorabilia. (This article is actually the precursor to the piece John published in January.)

A Great Survivor - Part Two The War Years by Ian Greewood

In this second installment of a three part series, Ian continues examining the stamp designs and career of Ivan Dubasov, who for forty years was the head artist producing postage stamps of the Soviet Union. Now into the war years, with deep research and iconic imagery, Ian provides the story behind the story of the patriotic and propagandistic Soviet issues of World War II.

Pneumatic tubes for sending mail…and cats?? by Lisa Grant

Yes – cats. And apparently dogs, mice, roosters, guinea pigs, monkeys and fish, were all unlikely passengers on the pneumatic mail systems that appeared at the dawn of the 20th century. In this fun and informative article Lisa gives us a survey of this brief yet fascinating period which at one point saw up to a third of all New York City mail being transported by pneumatic tube.

Weeds In Your Collection #2 – France Ceres 1849-75 by Nelson Laviolette

Weeds In Your Collection #3 - British Columbia and Vancouver(s) Island 1860-67 by Nelson Laviolette

Two more articles from Nelson on pre-1920 forgeries. Including forgeries of rare stamps as well as spurious items that appear online targeting collectors of more modest means, these nicely illustrated and annotated surveys are not just a good read, but a remarkable resource for collectors of classic stamps. We're privileged to have them permanently available to members and the general public here at the SOR website.

Needless to say – a very sincere Thank You! to all of our contributors.

re: More fantastic new articles posted

Been working diligently on my early France collection, and the article "" Weeds In Your Collection #2 – France Ceres 1849-75 by Nelson Laviolette "" could not have come at a better time. Now I have to wait for the next article on the "Sage" series, before I can share some of my collection completion landmarks....after checking for the genuines vs forgeries.

Problem with completing a difficult collection area is that after the many years and many steps it took, there are NO ready pages that meet your needs, so one has to re-design all pages to do justice to the material. It never ends.........

Thanks for posting the links to the articles!
