We are siblings. After all we have the same mother. Although mum was quite taken aback by one of us engaging in, as she would put it “regrettable behavior of 1776.” Nevertheless, mum has gotten over the incident. I realize that we have had joint postal issues in the past, the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway for instance. Yet, does that seriously convey a full account of a sibling relationship? I think not. We should embrace the entire spectrum. Therefore I propose Canada and the US jointly issue stamps commemorating. . .Hockey Fights.

The issue would come se-tenant with four designs.

Stamp a. This would depict two opposing players outside of the circle waiting for a face-off. They would be snarling and sort of bumping shoulders. The title “Wanna go eh?”

Stamp b. This would simply show two hockey sticks and four hockey gloves laying on the ice. The title “The die is cast.”

Stamp c. This would depict one player from each of the original six NHL teams lined up on the blue line arm in arm with each of their faces in various stages of disrepair. The title “Sorry.”

Finally stamp d. This would appeal to non-hockey fans who still embrace the basic spirit of the issue. It would picture the CEO of Tom Horton and the CEO of Dunkin Donuts facing each other in a classic pugilistic pose.

Either the USPS or Canada Post is free to use this design. I would expect no credit (or blame) for this historic enterprise should it come to fruition. However, an executive suite at the Madhouse on Madison would be nice.

re: Canada/US Joint Issue Suggestion

A substantially less humorus idea ocurred to me of a series of stamps celebrating places to visit along the US/Canada border. You could start with Grand Falls area on the Maine/New Brunswick border, move along to Niagra falls, Turtle Mountain in North Dakota/Manitoba with it's International Peace Garden, sachet over to the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park/Glacier National Park in Alberta and Montana and ending with the Salish Sea.

Then you would have a joint issue for where we join together.

Let's not forget the Peace Arch park along the border of BC and WA.

All attempts to invade Canada by "Americans" were unsuccessful. Including the latest attempted Target invasion.
