Hi Ian,
This is something more people have asked about recently. What happens is this: everytime someone posts a reply, it is counted. But everytime someone edits his/her reply, or a moderator corrects a website link (for instance), this is counted as a reply as well. So when you change your posting 6 times, you will see the counter at 6, where there are no replies at all. It is a minor bug in the system, one that will undoubtedly be solved at some time. Right now, it is in the "nice to have" section of future upgrades, as far as I know...

Also, I just tested this and noted that when you delete a reply, that reply still "counts" as one. The act of deleting the reply, however, doesn't count as another reply.

There was a thread yesterday about charitable fundraising but it seems to have disappeared. Was it deleted?

I have no idea Ernie. I am checking on it with the other moderators and will get back to you. Be assured, despite my personal involvement in the discussion there, I in no way support censorship and would not summarily delete a thread no matter how distasteful is was to me personally unless a rule or policy of Stamporama was violated.

I probably should have discussed this with the moderators before acting unilaterally, as THEY are asking about it.

How common is it to completely delete a thread? In the absence of anything profane, vulgar or threatening, what constitutes DB content that should be deleted? Thanks in advance. -Ernie

And for those of us getting emails when there are replies, we'll get 6 emails! How fast does the system send out those messages? Is there any grace period for making changes without everyone getting an extra email?

When you're typing a message, you can click the "Preview" button and see what it will look like on the discussion board without submitting it. You can do that as many times as you choose and it may prevent having to go back, edit and re-submit.

I do not believe a "draft mode" is necessary. I always have my word processing program running, and I usually type lengthy or difficult messages there. Then when I am done, I simply copy the text and paste it into the message box. This has the extra advantage of spell check, grammar check, dictionary and thesaurus access at my fingertips.

Actually, I use WordPerfect by Corel and I can incorporate images into my text. However, I don't because it is too easy to upload images to SOR. If I am unsure whether an image will load (and as long as it is under 350kb in size and less than 900x1200 pixels, there is no reason to believe it will not) I just use the "Test" topic on the DB to try it out.
Perhaps a "Draft Mode" would be beneficial to some, I am just saying that, at least for me, it is superfluous.
Perhaps if you can forward me to a discussion board or chat room which has such a feature, so I can see how it works, I will change my mind. I do not want to be hard-headed about this, but like that "Missouri mule," you gotta show me.

I believe the "Preview" button basically is a draft mode.

I don't want to labor this thought but a draft mode allows you to save & go back later to edit or post, the preview mode is only possible to use while online.

An offline conversation with Nelson has swayed me, at least to the degree that I will not oppose it should there be enough demand. As Nelson pointed out, the Articles section already has a draft mode, and incorporation of such into the DB may not be as far fetched as I previously thought. I still have no need for one, just as I have no need for one in the articles section. I do all my heavy "drafting" in a stand alone program specifically designed for such work. I'll stick with offline drafting and "cut and paste" insertion; but if others want such a creature, far be from me to oppose it.

Hi Nelson,
I've thought about a draft mode in the past but I haven't been able to see a good way to make it work. Each post is completely dependent on being apart of the Topic and the Thread. How would you find the drafts when you come back in the next day to finish your post? I'm open to suggestions.

My suggestion is to ignore this request. As Bobby has elaborated, you can draft your messages using word software. It is not worth the effort. Spend some time with your collection instead, Tim.
The concern I can understand is that edits of prior messages (corrections of typos) etc. should not trigger notifications that a 'new' message has been posted. Also, if it can be made that edits of messages do not add to the count of postings, I believe that would also address some members concerns.

I agree with Arno. I write long postings (And I do tend toward being wordy) on my Wordpad (***) and go over spelling and grammar there, sometimes more than once, then copy and paste it to the site, check how it looks in "Preview" and add any image or link I feel is needed.
That works just fine for me.
(***) The separate Wordpad feature allows me to type in a large font that my eyes can see clearly.

I hate to admit I'm starting to have the same problem, but FYI most browsers (and Wordpad too) have a zoom that makes things bigger and easier to read.

If size really matters, you can always click "control" and the "+" sign at the same time and that will enlarge the images on your page. Just hit control and minus to go back in size.

I was delighted to see that a thread I started had as many as 18 replies, but puzzled when I counted only seven. There's probably a simple explanation for this which I have missed, but, er, I seem to have missed it! Perhaps 11 people started a reply but then thought better of it?
