Hi Guys
""Rakium Stamp Analyser - apparently also center grades the stamp - $35""
Is the stamp scanned at 300DPI without alterations
The item must match the DPI setting of the software
It then measures how many perfs over the standard 2cm
These programs don't like pictures
Hi nl1947,
Thanks for the reply and help - The first scan was "cut" from a group of pic's scanned @ 300DPI..
That's the mistake I think.!
I scanned a "normal" sheet stamp on its own @ 600DPI and the results were 13.36 Top ; 13.07 Side.
My Aussie Cat gives 13.3 x 13.03 Perfs. Scott gives 13 perf for that stamp (Sc#805), so - near enough...
Did it again @ 300DPI same results as 600DPI.
So my bad - All looks OK now.....
Thanks again
Steve.

I have a feeling that I am going to wish I didn't ask this question, but not understanding is going to raise my BP when I try to sleep.
" .... But it gives the perfs "per 2 cm" ?? What does that mean ? Looks like 32 per 2cm is about 11 1/2 perf.. ...."
Okay, I have never used or even seen such a gadget. So I wonder if I missed something in translation.
What are they trying to indicate when they show 32 per 2 cm. "¿ 32 what per 2cm ?"
How does that yield 11½ perforations per 2cm. I have no doubt there is a rational explanation for their indication but it should be explained for us country bumpkins.
Don't pay attention to the "But it gives the perfs "per 2 cm" ?? What does that mean ? Looks like 32 per 2cm is about 11 1/2 perf.. ...."
The software that Stevo45 was using was trying to measure a picture not an original scan and was giving flawed information.
These programs require an unaltered scan at 300DPI or better 600DPI - then they work fine
The program can then calculate from the DPI setting the size of the stamp and measure how many perfs over the standard 2cm
This is from a 600dpi scan measured with Buxsoft Perfomaster - works well & free. Doesn't do so well with stamps that have missing or a lot of damaged perfs
As the program can be VERY accurate, it can measure small variations between varieties. Catalogs like Scotts often round off the perf size
EZPERF and its related programs are well worth it. Even though I enjoy using a magnifying glass and a quality guage - it is nice to get electronic evidence.
