I have 44 souvenier sheets from "Ajman State and their Depenicies" including Sharjah, Manama, Ajman, Yemen Arab Republic, and Ras Al Khaima that I am unable to find in the Scott Worldwide Catalogues.

I have looked under the individual countries without success as well as UAE.

If anyone can help with the location in the Scott Catalogue, I would appreciate it very much.

Thank You,
Loren Dick

re: General help requested

Almost all of those issues will not be listed in Scott catalogs due to their dubious nature. Most were issued just to get money from collectors.

Michel, however, does have a current Gulf States Catalog that does have these stamps listed. Many years ago, Minkus had a Trucial States catalog. It is hard to find now, but can be found.

Also, Steiner pages do include most of these "Sand Dune" Sheikdoms. Pages for Ajman have never been done in the Steiner pages, however, for non-Scott listed stamps.

In Scott, the Trucial States listing is only one set.

Again, those souvenir sheets and stamps that you have will most likely not be listed in Scott.

I'm not sure which Souvenir Sheets you have but some are listed in the StampWorld on-line catalog at this link. This catalog doesn't use Scott numbers but there are general prices listed for each stamp in Mint and Used condition. Surprisingly complete.

You don't need to register unless you use it alot. There's no harm in registering though.

If you have access to a Michel World Wide set of Catalogues, they will be listed in there.

re: General help requested

Back in the 1970s through the 1980s, Scott used to have a section at the back of each volume called "For the Record". It was a short section, typically less than 10 pages. Here they would list in abridged fashion, additional stamps from places such as Ajman, Sharjah, Fujeira... that were not in the general catalog listings. The For the Record listing only contained a brief description of the set, the year issued (sometimes date as well), and the denominations in the set. But the stamps did not have any Scott numbers assigned, and no catalog values were given, and no illustrations provided. The listings in the "For the Record" section were also not complete.

Rather than trying to upgrade/build the listings in For the Record, sometime in the 1990s(?) Scott chose to eliminate that section completely. Some countries had their For the Record listings footnoted in their country listings. But many areas, such as Ajman, Sharjah... had their For the Record listings completely discarded. Very unfortunate. By doing so, I think Scott managed to trim about 3 pages off each of their 1000++ page catalogs.

Great way for Scott to encourage people to look into Michel catalogs instead.

re: General help requested

Kim, I'm going to tax your memory of that.

Scott did indeed have a "For the Record" section, but there was an identifying number associated with the stamps, but no catalog value. The numbering related to the year of issue, and the number of each stamp in the set. You can still see this numbering in the Scott catalogs in the unlisted stamp listings of Equatorial Guinea.

Looking at the Equatorial Guinea listings, you'll see that the first unlisted set is number 7301-7309, etc.

Gibbons maintained its "Appendix" containing unlisted stamps. There is no numbering system for them, but the information provided is the year of issue, name of issue and the face values of each stamp in the set. This includes the Sand Dunes, and Equatorial Guinea.

re: General help requested

possibly The idea of the "For the Record" listings ("???") as well as the APS "Black Blot Program" was to alert inexperienced collectors that these labels exist but were not really postage stamps.
Because of this, collecting them is equivalent to soaking off Jam Jar Labels for a special collection of, well, ....Jam Jar Labels.. People are welcome to do so, but showing them off with postage stamps will only generate a quizzical lifting of one or both eyebrows and probably a hasty departure.
I'm sorry, Loren, but that is the truth.

re: General help requested

Thank you to everyone who responded to this question. I have since given up trying to identify them.

I have so many stamps and sheets that have no Scott numbers. Most of them are from Afganistan with a note that they were unauthorized issues, even though they all have cancellations within Afganistan. It is enough to make you scream. On the US I do very well but I just started with worldwide about 6 months ago and have a lot to learn there.

Again, thank you for your help.
