Hello all!

My name is Mike and I am only now getting back into stamp collecting after a hiatus of ~45 years.

I was an interested collector as a lad, but had no funds to do much serious collecting - used to love getting those stamps 'on approval' and figuring out how many I could buy for the few dollars I had amassed.

After school, marriage, service, started collecting again with my wife, but again, money was tight (newly married and soon with a son!) so did not spend big money on the early issues. We only collected US, primarily mint.

As the saying goes, life interfered with my collecting and I spent the next forty years or so working my way up the corporate ladder, not having much time for outside interests so the stamp collecting languished.

Having retired a few years back, I just 'dug out' my venerable Scott National album and have come to the conclusion it needs to be replaced. In fairness, the stamps are in good condition as are the pages, but the binder is a bit beat up. All the stamps are in Scott mounts and have survived well.

Currently considering which album to get and have determined I want hingeless if possible, preferably something on the order of the Scott Platinum Hingeless, even though they stopped manufacturing them some time back and do not produce the later supplements.

I'm looking at the normal sites, e.g. eBay, and expect I will find something given a bit of patience. If anyone can point me in the direction of some of these albums, I would appreciate it.

This is already too long, but I hope it serves as my intro.

All the best,
Mike

Welcome, Mike!

Your story is familiar, as many of us came back to stampin' in the same manner.

I envy those of you who live in Ohio by the way - so much closer to Cleveland than me!

...I love that city....

Welcome, Mike!

The Scott Platinum album was replaced by the Scott Schaubek US Album. It is also a hingeless album. For a high end album, you'd probably be better off with that instead of trying to assemble a platinum album which you will never get complete.

Scott does offer the album in a set covering 1845-2011, and then supplements are available for 2012, 2013 and 2014. If you subscribe to Linn's, you get a discount.

Wow! I am somewhat overwhelmed by the responses to my initial post - sure seems to be a very friendly group!

Rather than try to address each individual response, let me just say I am sure I will be happy discussing stamps here, and no doubt will learn much.

To Michael in TX - thanks for the suggestion re the Scott Schaubek album; I will take a look.

Sure seems there is a lot to catch up with, but having a resource like this will be invaluable.

All the best,
Mike
