"...StampoRama seemed like the best forum..."
Welcome welcome...These guys and gals are the best! Nary a question asked that someone can`t steer you in the right direction to find the correct answers. I learn something new on a weekly ...... maybe even a daily basis.....Welcome!!!!
Welcome, Mike. I've been here for about a year and it is indeed a great forum. In fact, it's starting to feel like family... in a good way, that is.
My advice as a boomerang collector* and a one-year SOR veteran:
Be sure to make use of the "Search" function here in the discussion area. There are few topics that haven't come up at some point in the past. A simple keyword search returns all of the archived threads that contain that keyword. On more than a few occasions, I've been pleasantly surprised to find that my exact question had already been asked and discussed.
Then, if you have a follow-on question or comment to that archived discussion, you can post that question or comment as a response. And here's where the really cool part comes in. By adding your comment to an old discussion, it revives that thread through the "Last 30 By Time" function. An informal survey last year found that most members clicked on "Last 30 By Time" as their first or second actions every time they log onto SOR.
This clever set of functions help share the wisdom of our membership, both through research of the archives and through active discussions.
And the really REALLY cool thing (for me anyway) is that no question is too basic or trivial to ask. Newcomers ask questions that stump the masters and, even better, the masters often do not agree! It is through reading those discussions of the emphatic pros and equally emphatic cons of various techniques and methods that I have learned so much.
Best of luck in your new-found hobby!
-Steve

Hello, Mike, and WELCOME! You will find friends here more than willing to help with any questions you may have as you enjoy our wonderful hobby! BOB in Orlando
Hi Mike;
Welcome to the best stamp club on the planet. As you must know from the bottom half of our HOME page
we were awarded the 2014 GOLD WEB award by the American Philatelic Society (APS) also the biggest
and one of the oldest off-line stamp clubs in the world. So that must mean an awful lot of people agree
that we are great.
Spend as much or as little time with us as suits you schedule, but you will enjoy every minute I'm sure.
It has been a lot of fun on here getting to know what others collect and why they collect those items.
Many are interested in postal history, or perhaps the history of the topics themselves on the stamps.
Just chillin'....

Hi Mike!
Welcome!
I'm curious; any ideas as to what area you want to start in or are interested in?
Country? Continent? Topic?

Hi Everyone,
I decided to get into stamp collecting recently. I know very little about the hobby but am researching (reading the "Stamp Collector's Bible") and looking forward to learning as much as I can with the help from members of this forum.
I found several forums on the web but StampoRama seemed like the best forum that has the most helpful information.
Thanks!
