I am new to stamp collecting. Now I do collect them but I use them in my artwork. So all those zillions no one can get rid of, you are looking at her. BUT I made the "mistake" of ordering a loose collection of unused stamps to use for postage and was amazed at the amount of history in that tiny packet. I have always saved neat stamps but this was an eye opener. And I told myself "self, you are not collecting these." Well, I would like to collect them and so I want to get started on the right foot.

My interests right now are USA stamps. It started with the four horses years ago. Then the Secretariat stamp (which got ruined and now I need another or LOTS!!). I just replaced the four horse ones through APS sales, bought a lot of 40. I want to use the Morgan one on my niece's envelope for her graduation card as she just got a Morgan horse herself.

Ok, some info. I am 53 and I am a rural mail carrier. Yup, eyeball deep in postage. I was told I would get sick of letters and mail after awhile but it hasn't happened after 10 years. I love mail, I love anything postal related and so I guess it was just inevitable I'd actually start to collect stamps.

I do penpalling, online postal swaps plus my crafts and creations where I use postage as an element.

I live in the boondocks but I see there are two *local* clubs if I want to drive an hour in either direction. I just joined APS, got my information packet today. I am surprised to see process it takes to be a member! So I'm not official yet. I had to go through the same process to join the Australian Shepard club through AKC. Who knew?? Fun!!

Anyway, that is me in a nutshell.

Welcome, Christine. Glad to see the "stamp bug" is still biting folk! The fun thing about stamps for me, is that you can allow yourself to get sidetracked and still find yourself in the hunt (albeit in a different direction). The great thing about Stamporama, is that no matter where you journey in philately, you are bound to find someone here whose either been there, dwells there now, or also wants to make the journey.

Hi Christine;

Hi and welcome to the best club on the web.

When I lived in Lake Co. Illinois (Fox Lake) I made many a camping/fishing trip to rural Wisconsin
and Minnesota. I love the outdoors and live in a cabin with only wood heat, and must cut wood
by myself every year. My kitty helps me by being my lookout for bears, cougars, and other nasty
critters.

When I lived in Illinois I used to go to all the local shows and the Chicago bricks-and-mortar
stamp dealers. I kinda miss that tho....

I hope you enjoy your time on here and visit our discussion board often!

Just Chillin'....

re: Hello from Wisconsin

WisChris is wonderful name.

My daughter loves horses, and my wife relives her love through my daughter. Can't see a Friesian without her screaming "there's a Friesian." My wife rode for years, but her back won't allow it any more. She had a horse, George, who was a Morgan thoroughbred cross, and quite the jumper.

Sounds like you're enjoying stamps, so you are on the right path.

Hi Christine,
I I also just joined and am from WI (if you consider Madison part of the " real" Wisconsin). I just came into a large amount of stamps and if you let me know what type of US stamps you collect (mint, unused, used, or whatever) I would like to send you a welcome gift.
