We had a small discussion on postage currency about a year ago. A few of us have some of these items. They are not common.
The Scott US Specialized uses a "PC" prefix to identify them. I don't know what the "PIC" means, unless it's a numbering system from a specialist in this area.

Also check out Fractionals it may have values listed
There were counterfeits of these but the faces on them are somewhat crude. They were washed & creased to fake circulation wear.

The last couple posts that I put out there had already been discussed previously. I'm surprised by the depth of knowledge that's on this discussion board! Will definitely do some keyword searches before I post again.

Recently aquired this 25c note of US postage currency. Basically it was emergency money used during the civil war. I'm fascinated with the idea that stamps were used as currency. Some years back my dad asked me to sell some items on eBay for him because he isn't too terribly tech saavy. We sold some French, German and New Caldonia encased postage stamps and I was surprised that the money that they fetched. I see these US notes often in Philatelic Auction catalogues but they are usually listed with PIC (sp?) reference numbers. Does anyone know what PIC numbers are and whate type of reference catalogue it is? Does anyone collect these notes? Thanks in advance.
