Well done Bob; an excellent pointer.
Ningpo recently asked, in another thread, if a moderator could shorten a very long URL (link) to a non-Stamporama web page. It seems that such long URLs often cause problems, especially if sometime tries to type them one character at a time, as one incorrect or missing character will always result in failure. There's a free solution to this problem, available at the "TinyURL" web site.
There are just four steps:
1. Highlight and copy the long URL into your buffer; in this example, the URL being used is the one for this web page.
2. Go to TinyURL.com.
3. Paste the long URL into the field provided. It should look like this:
Click the "Make TinyURL" button
4. When a new page appears in a few seconds, you'll see something like this:
Copy the new, short URL that is provided.
5. Paste the new URL wherever it's needed, hopefully in a Stamporama discussion board post!
Here's the same example, live:
The (not very long) URL for this web page is:
http://stamporama.com/discboard/disc_main.php?action=31&id=83285
MakeTinyURL.com turns it into this much-shorter URL:
http://tinyurl.com/of9mt4q
Try the short one. See? It works! You'll like it!
