I am not actually a stamp collector as I have mentioned before. I collect antique documents, but in my collecting I often come across collections of stamps. Yesterday I bought a box of documents at a garage sale and in the bottom of the box was the remains of an old stamp album. Many of the pages were damaged but most of the stamps looks pristine. I am wondering if anyone can give me info on the album and the stamps therein,

Thanks in advance,
Blair

re: Looking for information on an album

First page 1938,39 issues Catalog value for all 7 stamps $7.65 Never Hinged
Second page 1949 issues $1.50 for all 6 stamps

Your 2 cent Jefferson Catalogs at $65.00 Never Hinged, if you have the complete Set of 5
Catalog Value is $845.00 in Never Hinged Condition, if hinged $325.00
Prices are based on Scott 2015 Catalog

I think the pages were made by White Ace

re: Looking for information on an album

Thank you for the response. None of the stamps appear to have ever been hinged. They are all in the little black sleeves. There's a total of about 250 stamps in the album though it looks like someone went through and pull some of the sleeves off the pages. There are many that are loose in the album. Many of the pages are damaged but none of the stamps appear to be. They all seem to be about the condition of the ones pictured here.

Thanks again!
Blair

re: Looking for information on an album

If I understood correctly you were asking for information on the stamps, but also on the album.

These pages are part of a set for US commemoratives published by Washington Press under the brand 'White Ace'. They are very popular and still available, albeit many feel very expensive.

" .... Prices are based on Scott 2015 Catalog ..."

No, no, no, .....
Those are not prices, they are "Listings" and if offered to a stamp dealer or knowledgeable collector would not generate those numbers.
That can be anywhere from 10% to 30% of the listings to in some cases closer to the listings which are usually understood to be a measure of comparative rarity or commonality.
Most collectors understand that Scott does not sell stamps so their listings cannot be a selling price. There are also many conditions involved.
Since you say they were found at the bottom of a box stored in a garage any estimate of what actual market value would be would be based on actual hands on inspection.
While they look really nice, I can think of a half dozen possible problems with those stamps that careless storage may have caused.
I'd suggest seeking a professional opinion. The range of possibilities is just too great by scan.

re: Looking for information on an album

Yes I understood that those are "Book Value" and by no means are what would be realized if I tried to sell them, which by the way I considered but to be honest now I think I'm going to keep them... maybe try to fill in the blanks in the album... after reading on this site some I think I might start collecting stamps myself...lol

thanks everyone, for adding to my collecting addiction!
