Centenary International Philatelic Exhibition in Grand Central Palace in New York City from May 17 to 25, 1947.
Awesome Thanks Bobby!
That's funny... I just got that commemorative sheet today. The airmail stamp was in a large group I got a few days ago.
Thanks again,
Blair
Here's the envelope, I bought this when I lived in Chicago from a dealer. I now live about 1000 feet away
That cancel is a little different... different location, same event?
Pedroguy is showing the postmark that was used at the exhibition post office in New York.
The partial cancel you have is a slogan that was used all over the country (?) to advertize for the exhibition. I have no further information as to how many different cities used this slogan (and for how long). This information might be listed in Luff, a common reference, but I don't have the book. Here is an image I lifted from ebay:
and, as should be clear from Arno's images, the national pictorial promotional cancels differerd from one another, although I don't have any data.
and Bill's cancel is actually the FD cancel for that postal stationary
Thanks! I added that stamp to the page for that exhibition in my commemorative album.
Can anyone identify the exhibition cancel on this airmail?
