An area I'm very slowly developing is a study of cancels on GB stamps, particularly of the QV era. I am new to this but I'm enjoying the research aspects (once a nerd ... ). Anyway, I have found some interesting ones. Here are some from a late uncle's collection that I finally got around to adding to mine.

Isle of Wight

Top Row, L to R:
Godshill (C52), Newport (560), Ryde (666)
Bottom Row, L to R:
Shanklin (B89), Ventnor (971)

Isle of Man
Douglas (407) x2; Ramsey (036)

Peter

I also collect QV of the UK and have often wondered about the cancels. Where did you find the information (website, book, catalog, ...)?

The source I use is Gibbons' "Collect British Postmarks" (2013, 9th Ed.).

I see one on Amazon for about $40 plus shipping; on eBay, older editions are available at auction, but this newest edition is over $50.

Just be careful to buy this one by Gibbons; there is a paperback one by Dr. J. T. Whitney of the same title (see image below) but it is not as "user friendly" to find postmarks as this Gibbons edition is. I have both and find I use the Gibbons almost exclusively since I got it.

Hi Peter,

These two are basically editions of the same catalogue.

I have the 7th edition (still with Dr Whitney's name but edited by Peachey & Crookes and published by the British Postmark Society) and the 8th edition published by Stanley Gibbons. These two editions use the same type numbers.

The 7th edition (1997) was priced at £16.50 (so a big increase from your £4 version!) and the 8th edition (2011) was priced at £29.95.

It comes down to a preference in presentation; I find the newer edition to be better laid out. I used the older edition for a while, until I upgraded and haven't gone back.
