I don't know what volume it would but there is a series of books titled "United States Post Offices (with various volumes)" by compiled by Richard W. Helbock. The one containing West Virginia will list all the town post offices, when they started (and when they ended if not current to time of publication) and assigns a rarity factor to each location. Not sure if that fits into valuing the postmarks as that will be a separate issue.

Bruce and Robert,
That would be Volume VI - The Mid-Atlantic . Here it is on Amazon (if that helps)

This is good to know, thank you! I will be keeping an eye out for Vol I (West) myself.
Is there a catalog for Post Office Cancellations for the state of West Virginia. I have acquired several hundred covers, mostly 19th Century, postmarked by West Virginia POs and would like to assess their value. Would like to know if there is such a catalog, and would really like to hear from anyone having a copy for sale.
