re: Canada #89 light blue

First off, this is an exceptionally common issue, with a total of 1,470,000,000 printed from 69 different plates. There are a great many shades, ranging through the greens from grey-green to blue-green resulting from so many printings.

Boggs, in his "Postage Stamps and Postal History of Canada" simply says under "Shades":

"As would be expected the large quantity of stamps needed for this issue resulted in quite a wide variety of shades, particularly in the 1c to 10c values, as there were a number of printings of each."

The colours in this scan seen to be a bit off. The blue of the #235 looks too harsh. It looks like the contrast is too high (stamps too white, background too black), possibly a result of "auto-adjust colors". However, within the limits of that, the middle stamp does seem to be blue-green, whereas the right stamp may be green or grey-green.

Check to see if your scanning software is applying an "auto-adjust" to the colours.

That's bad news for stamp scanning.
