Others have made the point before but it's worth making again... to have a place where you can go online, see scans of .5 and .10 stamps and purchase for .50 - .75 shipping is huge. I'm not sure if something similar is available elsewhere but SoR's approvals offer a valuable service. Kudos to to all of the members who dreamed it up and to those who currently keep it rolling.

To my knowledge there is nothing that works automatically like our approval books. There is at least one collector who sells stamps like this online, but his is a manual process where the buyer has to identify which stamp is wanted, the seller has to modify the image of the sold stamp indicating that it has been sold. SOR approvals do all that automatically with a click of a button!
congratulations to Ralph, for his idea, Tim for implementing, and Bobby, Tim, and Ralph for developing the rules of engagement. If I missed anyone from this latter, please accept my apologies, and take a formal bow.

The idea of selling online seemed daunting to me and I shied away until Stamporama started the approvals. Finally, a friendly, cost-free platform for selling all those duplicates in a casual, stress free environment. Here I could at last buy all those lower priced stamps I was missing that most dealers don't bother with, here I could change a sale into a mutual trade, here I don't worry about unscrupulous buyers, here "customers" become "friends", here I can dust off those stockbooks and get my unwanted stamps into another collector's album and here is where I will stay!
Congratulations and THANK YOU Ralph, Tim and everyone who turned an great idea into a huge success!
And a big thank you also to all of our sellers. Just today in the mail I received a beautifully engraved set of 19th century, bi color stamps from Latin America. Not expensive but they're classics in every regard. BIG THANKS Jan-Simon!
Ernie
I am glad they arrived and that you like them. Yes, the approvals are wonderful. I use it partly as an indirect way of trading stamps for my own collection by selling some of my duplicates so that I can buy ones I can use. And the extra money is for nice extra's like taking my wife out for dinner :-)
Yes, I agree that the approvals have been great. I have found hundreds of stamps to add to my collection. I went into a funk after Lee Payette went to Mexico, but thanks to the mismanagement at BidStart, some of those sellers came here, and it was GAME ON again!
The ease of how the approval system works for both sellers and buyers made it possible for the strong support that arose and the success that followed.
We've come a long way. Always improving and moving forward.
Great job and thanks for all your hard worked hours to make it a success.
Hard to realize that there was nothing like SOR's Approvals before 2014, and now it is part of the fabric of SOR! Yes, it was just launched, on December 27, 2013! Many thanks again to the development team, and especially to Tim who designed such an outstanding piece of software...that keeps on working flawlessly.
And thanks to all of you who embraced it with enthusiasm.
FYI, there were approximately 2250 Approval Books issued in our second year.
And there are currently over 850 books with active status.
