Hello,

Seems like a SC #139, but the color is all wrong. The left stamp is what I have several copies of, the center is the odd green 139. The right hand stamp is a 140, in it's normal color. I wonder if a sheet of 139 got printed in the wrong color? Any ideas where I can find more about this?

Thanks
Tom

re: Help Identify this Belgian Congo stamp

Sure as heck looks like a different color. Cool

I always suspect a color changeling first.

No note in Scott about a different color for Scott 139.

You might want to check other catalogues (Michel?) or a Belgium one.

Inquiry to the Belgium Society specialists?

Good luck!

re: Help Identify this Belgian Congo stamp

Well after searching around for changeling and sulfurization, I learned something new.

On the other hand I don't know the answer to either. I'm still a new-ish collector.

Thanks for checking the Michel and Y&T.

I also checked this interesting site: http://www.congoposte.be
No luck.

I'll keep looking.
Thanks
Tom

The COB (Catalogue Official Belgique) has no mention of color shades here. But I have seen many among the Congo sets.

Rjan: Is the COB a good catalog? I have seen it's cover online, but have been unable to acquire one.

Does it have yet again another numbering scheme?

re: Help Identify this Belgian Congo stamp

COB, I assume is the standard for Belgian philately: both Belgium and all colonies. It has a lot of minutiae on types and issues. I have 2003 hardcopy, and yes it is not Scott or Stanley Gibbons numbering system. The catalog is in french and although the forward indicates close collaboration with Yvert & Tellier I cannot verify if it uses Y&T numbering system or something else. There are innumerable specialty identifications which put it on par of a Scott US specialty catalog.

If you have a Y&T for Belgium I could check a few issues to verify if it is the same numbering system.
