Read this sellers description and see what you think. I find it highly speculative and exaggerated. $24,000? What's he smoking?

Amuses me that he wants 24 grand for the item but is not even going to send it registered post and the postmark, wavy lines, look wrong. Some are at a different angle to the others.

so, the CV is $4K and he wants 6X that amount for an item clearly used out of period, and not clearly used by any specific studio executive, and clearly not a well-versed philatelist.

i'll pass

re: Bonanza- Not?

I find it difficult to believe that even in 1968 anyone would place a mint copy of this stamp on an envelope and have it cancelled. It was selling for a significant amount in 1968. I have to wonder if it is genuine.

re: Bonanza- Not?

He needs a serious reality check. Disregarding the fact that it appears to have been washed and was a used stamp to begin with the catalog value in 2012 (Scott Classic Specialized) was only $650. The cover does nothing for the stamp - it predates the issuance of the stamp by over 30 years. In 1968 mint patriotic covers were cheap, actually they still are.

So as far as value goes the stamp stands alone. I doubt it is a sound copy. I think it was a used copy when placed on the cover and had been washed to remove the cancel (look around the edges. The cancel is wrong so it doesn't even make for a nice copy for a collector.

I think we are looking at a hundred dollar stamp here at best. Just my opinion and I would welcome someone explaining their thoughts, I may be a bit biased from seeing a lot of really good "restoration" work over the years.

I hesitated to post this but...

Only $999 for a fake 'souvenir sheet' from some Russian republic depicting Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Complete with political statements on his part.

This seller is a loon.

I cannot see where a TV show would do this as a prop. I seriously doubt the connection unless someone can show us an episode where this cover appeared. I'd say the prop department would make something up from scratch, rather than a $100 plus stamp!

re: Bonanza- Not?

When I went to work for the Topeka Daily Capital in 1969, an old guy there wrote a stamp column. One week, he discussed a cover he had manufactured that had three high-value Columbus stamps. I thought that was pretty silly. What good was a cover like that with a 1969 postmark?

When I asked him, he said he had purchased the stamps in the early 1930s. He said he got them for less than face value. They were extras, and he didn't care about their value. As I said, he was old. (At least, he seemed old. I was in my 20s.)

He just thought the cover was interesting. Whoever owns it now is probably puzzled, assuming there is a deeper, wondrous meaning to the cover.
