Hello, Ian.
I had the same problem with new listings, which warned me that this was my third re-listing. I was told that I needed to change the wording slightly when I listed similar items (in my case it was mixtures), so I've been doing that, and the problem has cleared up.
Sometimes I put a numerical digit on the listing, sometimes with a '#' sign, sometimes without. Sometimes the numerical digit is prior to the word 'mixture' or 'different', sometimes following it.
You might try this method, or you may find another method.
Cheers,
Marilyn Noll
I believe I read on another thread, the system looks at the image file name. Perhaps changing the name would help?
Ted
The solution may be simple. Your scanner assigns consecutive numbers, but if you set up separate folders, by month/year, or by subject, or however you chose, you can easily review your scans and "Save them As" in your subdirectories.
For Approvals, I set up folders by month, and then a second layer of folder for each book, copy the selected scan into the one that is appropriate, then I delete the master scan. I always keep my master scan file empty so that every new series of scans for new books will get numbered 001, 002 etc and then the numbers correspond to the page. I suppose a similar system could be done for Auctions. I simply when copying to a subdirectory ( month/ year), add an A in front of the number, then Auction and Approval scans are clearly identified.
Alternatively you can always rename your files, before saving them as.
All these will have different addresses when you import them into SOR.

doug's solution solves the problem; and if you're not relisting, delete those that are more than 14 days old (or your default period)
Ian I hit the same problem. I scan by stock sheet and then crop saving the images as 01,02,03 etc. Been doing it that way for 15 years. Now I do the same thing but use that popular F2 key to rename that 01 as 0106 (image 1 sixth week), or 0107 (you get the picture). I do have to keep things straight as I am now doing old ebay auctions here so those are renamed as 1-01, changing the first number each week. A pain to be sure but I can't think of a better way. A lot easier to do that I think than to consecutively number the images, especially when one has been doing something the same way for an awful long time. What will become 200 images a week will get out of control very quickly. Just my two cents
Greg
Yes, it was changed to keep the relisters at bay, though I think that doing it with the image not being able to be reloaded is a bit of a problem for everyone. Personally for my auctions its one and done. If it doesn't sell at auction, it goes into a store on another site or in the event of an inexpensive stamp, into a packet for my packet sales. To be honest, I really don't see another easy way to keep the same stamps from appearing except maybe to put in the rules that stamps can't be listed more than three times, or else disciplinary measures will be taken - and then follow through with the punishment say no auctions allowed for 30 days for the first offense, 180 for the second, you know, like failing a drug test. Harsh to be sure, but it would make life a little easy for the rest of us. I think this 3 times with an image thing will discourage those that do not sell but would like to. It can get complicated trying to keep track of things.
Greg
That was the idea Greg.... Don't know how well it's working, although we have had no complaints about relisted items since implementation. That proves nothing, of course.
Everything is a balancing act, and we thought, perhaps incorrectly, that this would be the least intrusive way.
We hadn't considered sellers who reuse file names with such regularity.
And, based on these discussions, our efforts to keep our moderating function on three uses quiet and behind the curtain has been scuttled. Can only hope that the big problem people continue to not read DB
David
Ian, do you usually have items running in ebay in a store (if you don't mind sharing under what name PM me). You probably hit upon one of the unknown rules of ebay. If you are selling the same thing as others you need to constantly add new items every day if possible, even if it is only 4-5. It pushes your items up in the algorithm. This was told to me by one of the sales folks who suggested that I cancel some of my listings and then relist them. Same effect. I have never done that as there was a serious compression problem in Turbo lister that caused the images to be shrunken. To download them, I would have to reshoot new images for everything and I don't have the time. Depending on your level you get different promotions. I have not gotten anything like you did in a while. I get these silly "list 1000 items for free" things, but if you have an anchor store, its not 1000 extra for you, only the smaller players.
Concerning the filename problem that some people are encountering:
In Windows (I can only speak to that), you can have the system create duplicate files for you.
Just click to select the files you want to duplicate, then drag them back into the same folder while holding down the "control" key. It will create new files, each with " - Copy" appended to the original file name.
Perhaps this would be a simple-enough workaround.
Ian,
I probably should follow my own advice, but in the interest of clarity, and correcting some misconceptions, let me respond via DB (discussion board)
first, feel free to use PM (private messaging); sometimes not everyone need be burdened with a discussion.
second, have you asked google for its algorhythm of the day? No? This is code. It was never meant to be shared; we urged everyone we spoke to to keep it to themselves, but, ah, that cat never liked the bag.
third, we were trying to stop the very thing that eBay was promoting: the perpetual relisting of items.
fourth, we discussed all kinds of limits from 1-6, and settled on three. for the kinds of problems that most users are having with it, the number is immaterial, as repetitive use of the same name will trigger it quickly.
"Also the more items available for sale the better chance of attracting more members."
Aw, go ahead, David, and reveal it. You have been paying Phil B. 5 Guatemala stamps per week to scan thru the auctions and report the re-listed ones. WE know better, hehehe.
Mike in NC / meostamps
Phil IS affordable
please, I welcome your approach to how to use the search function; you can send that to me via PM
Ian, I am working on updating/revising the auction procedures. With our web master currently working on an enhancement for the auctions, he has been unavailable to help me do this as I need his assistance in this project.
Regarding the list of auction items, the total number in the TOTAL AUCTION LOTS is the correct total of items that are listed. If you add up each individual auction category, those numbers will be higher since an item can be listed in more than one category. However, the total count is correct (3,270 as of the time this is being written). The notation in that line is one thing that I have marked for clarification.
You asked, "Should we be encouraging more members to list in the auction?" The answer to that is unequivocally, "Yes". We have been trying to encourage members to use the approval books for the low valued stamps and use the auctions for better material. Yet, we do not believe it our place to dictate to members under which platform they can list their items for sale. However, I think it is recognized by most members that to see the same items repeatedly is a detriment to the platform. Thus the restriction of relisting the same item to three tries was imposed.
I'm happy to add to the auction totals! I have in fact ended my auction listings on one of the other sites I was listing on and I have consignment items that I listed there at auction that will be listed here as well. I like using the auctions because of the difficulty of putting up approval books for some countries. I simply don't have enough for a book like Obock. I have found that putting more than 2 countries in a book even if it is marked as such, does not get the same sales. Too much checking between countries in an album is my guess. Therefore, I will probably list between 125-200 items a week and rest assured not a single one of them will be a duplicate of the prior weeks!
Greg
My problem is that I am told I have used all my listings on an item that has never been listed before. Very discouraging. I used to have 15 or 20 bunches listed. Now I have none. Stuck. Thanks
ccndd,
send me a message on the SOR Message system, and I'll help you.
