Linn's is reporting that the USPS is changing its policy for buying coil stamps from the Stamp Fulfillment Center. Collectors will have to buy a minimum of 500 stamps from a coil where the issued coil size is 10,000 stamps. This applies to the new red pear coil stamp, with a face value of ten cents. That means if you want to buy the stamp from USPS without buying the entire coil, you will have to fork over $50.00 to get one ten cent stamp to add to your collection. Previously the minimum purchase was 100 stamps.

re: Change in Policy - USPS

it's all about the collector

I really must thank USPS. No, really. I am so much more solvent because of their changing policies. Think about it. I no longer collect mint PBs. I no longer collect mint PNCs. and, I'm nearing my own personal Lars-point, where I abandon all mint. I had been collecting the imperf press sheets, but the circus and whatever the most recent Mystic-scarfed sheet was has made it essentially unattainable.

I see they did the same thing with the new 5 cent stamp. I suppose somebody like Mystic will buy them up and sell them as rare stamps for 20 times face value.
