Since I have been in Joliet in January, every time I see that name it brings a smile to my face. Boring place, but hey: I have been there so it is special :-)
Beautiful cover by the way.
nice to see a civil-war era cover with YEAR (1861).
Great score! Here's one of my favorite collateral items... an official ticket to the Columbian Exposition. Right now it is in my glass top display table. Eventually when I get my stamp albums together it will be on the page with my Columbian stamps.
heck yeah, the tickets are cool, amer banknote co, did like 20 different ones,
Just got 6 mint tickets in a large collection i bought.
Very very cool rwillis. They look like proofs
Very cool! I just have the one in the post above yours! Right now mine is on display in my curio glass top coffee table. When I get my album done, it will be on the page with my Columbians!
nice score! I wish I could have seen the col expo, I bet it was amazing.
I have become a worlds fair groupie, there are websites on the subject. I find the original locations and what still exists interesting, especially since they were supposed to be temporary structures. For instance, the main hall for the Columbian Exhibition still exists. The site in New York where both the 1939 and 1964 Worlds Fair occurred still exists, with buildings and things from both eras still there. The main building from the 1939 fair housed the newly formed United Nations until they moved to NYC. The hemisphere globe from the 1964 Worlds Fair still can be seen from the major roads.
cover to harlow higinbotham
whos that chap you ask?
