I just tried to upload a scan for an auction using the same exact resolution and size that I use for approvals, but it was too large. Is there a reason why we can't use the same scans in both places? I know there must be a reason and curiosity forces me to ask. This isn't a complaint - just wonderin' as Ken says.

Thanks!

re: Why are upload size limits different for Approvals and Auctions?

I suspect (Tim will confirm) that Approval Books Scans are by definition full page scans and are thus by necessity need to be larger than Auction scans. Otherwise the details of the stamps on the page may be hard to see. Auction scans are usually of smaller objects and should not need to waste all that storage space. rrr...

Auctions - Approvals
re: Why are upload size limits different for Approvals and Auctions?

I don't know. Full page scans for approval books I reduce to 45% and they work just fine. For individual scans if the size is greater than 300KB I reduce them to 45% as well. I use JASC Paint Shop Pro that came with my PC. A poor mans photoshop. For cropping I use the software that came with my scanner, Media Impression.

Approvals
re: Why are upload size limits different for Approvals and Auctions?

For Approval Books, I scan the pages and then, I resize the Figures doen to 1024x780 using the InfraView program.
For Auctions I scan the Stamps and also re-size them down, because if not the Figure will be too large.

Approvals
re: Why are upload size limits different for Approvals and Auctions?

I have trouble with Scans for Auctions here. They wind up being too large most of the time but then if I reduce them and later want to put the item up on EBAY - the scan is too small for the EBAY rules. I rarely put up auctions here - I just had a bunch close with no success - hardly even a view. I think I will continue to stick with Approval Books here - where I just scan the page and reduce by 50% and they work out fine. It seems that doing auctions here may not be time/cost effective for me at this point especially with having to change the sizes back and forth. Steve
