On another thread (which I couldn't find...) I mentioned bringing out my stamp tongs at a birthday dinner and having two people offer me their collections. Number One was picked up yesterday afternoon and it took me until 2:00am last night to sort through, roughly organize, and throw away about 1/3 (!!!) of the usual junk in the three boxes I got.

My father-in-law was supposed to pick up his wife's teacher's collection but said his car was too full so he'll do it in June sometime when he's back in that town. Sad Keeping my fingers crossed... Meanwhile, this "NEW HOARD" has everything: tons of on-paper; FDCs; and older higher CV MNH and Used in albums, glassines, and envelopes. I'm really going to have to get on top of deciding what I'll collect now and move things out. Take a look.

This was an inheritance of sorts and ended up costing me a $45 bottle of scotch. The red album has an inscription dated 1921 owned by "...Age 14 3/4." Probably only 300-400 stamps but Oy Vey! the quality is what you'd expect from a kid from a well-to-do family. I'm just bummed that there were another 3 old albums that were given away to someone a couple days before I got these but as my wife says, "If I hear one word of complaint I'm throwing all this crap in the garbage and you can go back to where you were before you got this freebie!!!" Angry

I'm not going to do another dissection on this lot as I'm leaving town today until Sunday and thinking I might just put up some stuff in bulk without sorting through - that way I get the house cleaned up and you might find a bargain I've missed. Some of my interesting findings will probably pop up on other Discussions today though.

Cheers, Dave.

I'm sure there's some stuff hiding in there. I'll put this on my "things to focus on" list - seriously I do need to break this up into manageable projects. Keep a lookout occasionally (best to search for THE HOARD).

Since you have more coming, you're really going to have to establish a nomenclature system so we readers can keep up. You called this one the New Hoard, but if you score in June, that'll be the New New Hoard, and this one will become the Old New Hoard - very confusing.

Maybe call the original Hoard I, the new one Hoard II, the coming one Hoard III, and so on.

Hope you can make it up to at least Hoard XX.

OK, I know you're just trying to get me to cross the line and make a stupid joke about Hoard XXX but as George W would say, "Not gunna do it".

But I like it. Hoard I and Hoard II are official. Had to go to a funeral and my father-in-law says I will probably get Hoard III this week in return for a $100 donation to the Salvation Army. Just got home after a 7.5 hr drive in brutal conditions so I can now post some stuff for another auction. Really got to start clearing out the house...
