Here is another question. This overprint says "Recargo De Consumos" It does not appear as one of the postal overprints in Scott, so I'm assuming these are overprinted as tax stamps. Any idea's and would they not be counted as "postage stamps" since they are overprinted?
These stamps surcharged with "Recargo de Consumos" and value are listed in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue as:
SG 147-152 (on postage stamps)
SG 153-159 (on telegraph stamps)
SG 160 (on the printed matter stamp)
SG also lists one "Derecho Judicial" fiscal stamp with this same surcharge as SG 161.
I guess Scott only lists those stamps that have surcharges that make make it clear that they are valid for postal use.
Thaqnks Nigel. So where would they fit in with scott numbers? My pages have spaces for all the other overprints, but not these.
The stamps were overprinted in 1889 (per Gibbons). If you were going to put them in a sort of "Scott order", I think they would fit after Scott #139.
Thank you both. It is a little irritating that Scott decided to omit an entire set of stamps.
This thread was separated from the Cuban stamp ID question.
