Brian, I just read an article in a 2010 issue of "Stamp News - Australasia" that stated that if you add up all the individual stamps issued by Australia, Australia issues a new stamp every 1.4 days. It seems that since 2010, Australia is issuing even more stamps!
Wait till all the Olympic gold medal winners sheets come out,in one way I hope we don't win too many more medals.
Also they are not all issued for postage just to milk stamp collectors,as they issue printed labels for parcels
I will admit even I am guilty of buying some of their overpriced items
Brian
...I believe that the Olympic medalists on stamps is a way to say how proud a country is of its Olympians!!! Alas some countries (Canada) only honour its winners after they have died.....
Outrageous that C is for crocs and camping. In Australia, C should be for cricket. (Despite their richly deserved trouncing at the hands of Sri Lanka!)
Well, there's one less set that Australia Post will be issuing!
Brian, are the Christmas Islands stamps, and soon the Norfolk Island stamps, readily available at any Australia post office?
I sure wish the US would honor OUR athletes with some issues like this.
After all, they DID lift the "living persons" ban.....
Randy, the US won 121 medals. I know the USPS is running a deficit again, but I don't want to help it into the black that much! They have issued enough stamps so far this year with more yet to come. Besides, four of those Olympic stamps will have the athletes in handcuffs.
Hi Michael
Yes the territory issues are always available at philatelic counters and we have three within 10 t0 20 minute drive.our local LPO only carries basic stamps though.
Not sure when we will get the first Norfolk Island issue.
Brian
Michael,
Hence the reason I said, "SOME issues like this."
Musicman, had a look at the link to your stamp club, well done.

Our Postal Service can be quite prejudice, only gold medalists are shown on stamps; NZ on the other hand honoured all their Olympians on stamps; Gold; Silver & Bronze.

Brian
Cannot make up my mind whether the red one is a porcupine, hedgehog or armadillo or just an animal hit by a circular saw.
The blue one presumably is depicting a Duck Billed Platypus or a Manatee though it could equally be road kill.
Agreed, not the best of stamps, was it a children's school project?
Hey Vic,
I think its an echidna. Which I believe is the lesser known of two egg laying mammals. Fascinating creature! Even more so than the platypus because he's primarily a land animal.

Love the stamps but how could Australia commemorate shipwrecks and leave out the Sydney Cove???
"Love the stamps but how could Australia commemorate shipwrecks and leave out the Sydney Cove??? "
Give AP time to get around to it. There are over 7,000 identified shipwrecks around Australia. We have already had a few shipwreck issues from Australia and Norfolk Island, and I'm sure that there will be more.
Interesting stamps
I just read some info about Heard Island Always learning something new....Is this the first time Heard Island has been shown on stamps? Just wondering
Thanks for sharing
Heard Island was once mentioned on a First Day Cover back in 1955 commemorating Australian Antarctic expeditions.

Australia post issued a $1-00 stamp on the 12th of Sept to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of WRESAT (Weapons Research Establishment Satellite).Issued in sheet format and S/A booklet of 20.

Got a bit ahead of yourself there Brian. The AAT and Norfolk stamps were issued on 19th September.
The International Post Water plants will be released on 27th September, and will cover the international rate change (rise) from 2nd October 2017.
Awe you are great at spellchecking..me not so much!!! lol

Brian
Today 27th September Australia Post issued a new set of international stamps ,to coincide with the rate increase due on the 2nd of October .Three stamps depicting "Water Flowers" 1 x $2-10, 1 x $2-30 and 1 x $3-00 ,each one is available in sheet and S/A sheetlet of five format.

Brian
I am trying to keep up with the new issues from 2017 as Australia is the only country I will collect post 1970 (except UK which I collected until 1999). Can you recommend an outlet where I could still purchase these stamps at face value or close to face value. Unfortunately the Darwin Post Office has sold out of many of the issues. I am only interested in the gummed stamps not the SA.
Regards
Richmond
Hi Richmond
It depends how far back you are referring to.
Rob
Rob,
Only this year - earlier years I assume I can pick up from approvals.
Regards
Richmond
Hi Richmond
I think the Sydney Philatelic Centre near the Queen Victoria building in the CBD sell stamps going back 6 months at face value. anything before that are sold by stamp dealers. I'll be going to the CBD today and will find out how far back they go and see if stamps prior to 6 months can be ordered.
Rob
One of our members asked me if I could purchase an Australian booklet only around one year old, found one at Adelaide Stampex last year dealer charged double face value.
If you get the Philatelic Bulletin it lists the new issues and their withdrawal dates, but only for the FDC's.
I found stamps on display at a post office and thought I'll get them ,I took them to the counter the girl scanned them and said sorry you can't have them the have been withdrawn.
On the 2nd of Oct Australia Post issued a new concession NV stamp these cost pensioners 60 cents each ,only thing is at the moment it appears you have got to pay $1-00 each as you can see from the booklet.
I inquired at the post office today and they were telling me they were having problems scanning them?
this is the back of the card see the price??
Brian
Hi Richmond
Spoke to the person in charge of the Philatelic section of the Post Office and he said they have most of the issues from February onwards, but they won’t last very long.
Rob
Thanks Rob
Are these alphabet stamps going to lead to pages with hidden messages?
Already has - the KGB is hiding in that last set
Anything really meaningful will cost a fortune at a buck a letter.

Heard Island was once mentioned on a First Day Cover back in 1955 commemorating Australian Antarctic expeditions.

Thanks Jill, date has now been corrected
AP must have printed the Bulletins before they decided to increase the postal rates. Must be the first thing the new CEO did???

I am trying to keep up with the new issues from 2017 as Australia is the only country I will collect post 1970 (except UK which I collected until 1999). Can you recommend an outlet where I could still purchase these stamps at face value or close to face value. Unfortunately the Darwin Post Office has sold out of many of the issues. I am only interested in the gummed stamps not the SA.

Hi Richmond
It depends how far back you are referring to.

Hi Richmond
I think the Sydney Philatelic Centre near the Queen Victoria building in the CBD sell stamps going back 6 months at face value. anything before that are sold by stamp dealers. I'll be going to the CBD today and will find out how far back they go and see if stamps prior to 6 months can be ordered.

re: Australian New Issues Part V

Hi Richmond
Spoke to the person in charge of the Philatelic section of the Post Office and he said they have most of the issues from February onwards, but they won’t last very long.

re: Australian New Issues Part V
Are these alphabet stamps going to lead to pages with hidden messages?
re: Australian New Issues Part V
Already has - the KGB is hiding in that last set
Anything really meaningful will cost a fortune at a buck a letter.
