It just doesn't seem cricket that one's stamp album has a place for a $40,000.00 stamp, as DAVO US VOL 1 does. I am no Trump. Just a simple country retiree on a budget.

So, while I am not proud of it (secretly I am), I scanned #613 from the web, resized it, and planted it in the $40,000.00 spot. I was above board about it, and labeled the atrocity as a Facsimile, but I suspect this will still tar my image in the philatelic community. It won't happen again, I swear to it.

A slippery slope? Perhaps. But "I ain't no paragon of virtue." as Nicolas Cage said in Moonstruck. (His real name is actually Nicolas Coppola -- so, more deception.)

Put it another way: now that we have gorgeous high-resolution scans & easy magnification - and are spending much of our lives with our faces in a screen, anyway - why bother collecting the stamps at all?

Why not be scan collectors, instead?

Cheers,
