The first two I can control, I can retire a book and (re-)activate it. But I do not understand the difference between inactive and closed. From what I remember, the system automatically closes a book after 225 days of no sales, or after 1 full year, regardless of any action. But how does it get "inactive" and is there a way to reverse this?
The strange thing is, that I have books marked inactive, while there are others that are older still in active mode...

Having an approval book in "inactive" status lets one work on the book over a period of time until it is ready to be activated for sale. It is actually inactive until the seller posts the book for sale.
You do not have to complete the book all at once and post it for sale. It is sort of like having a draft document that you work on until it is finished, and then it is ready to be published to be read by others.
One changes the status from inactive to active the same as changing the book to any other status.

In this particular case, some of the approvals in my list with status inactive have been active at one time. There have even been sales from those approvals. Could it be that for a reason I cannot recall right now an approval moderator put the book on inactive, because of some breach of the rules?

Just checked the records - Book 3471 was inactivated in February because it was over one year old.

Hi Theresa,
Thanks for checking. Those books I understand. Over 1 year old, they are closed. But there are also a few that are from November 2015 and they are closed and I cannot change it myself. Is that because of the 225 days of no activity rule?

I'm not sure about the automatic closure. I know that 100% sold books are automatically closed. Thanks for asking! I'll query Tim for a definitive answer.
