So today I took eight padded mailing envelopes containing coins from an old collection I had sold. The lowest rate for this is $2.62. I went to the regular post office near here. By the time I left I remembered why I stopped going there. Staff always try to uprate your mailings- it's like they have a meter tape slapped on your package before you can say no, I don't want that rate. The clerk was an older woman who told me I could get overnight delivery for twenty something, I said no just want the $2.62. She then started going down the line and after three offers I said no just want the lowest rate. She processed that then it was the second mailing- same thing. I asked if this was going to happen on every single thing I was mailing, because the answer was going to be the same.
I got the 'this is my job' business. After three or so trips through all the options she decided I was indeed going to insist on the cheap rate. I've never had such an uncomfortable experience with a postal employee.
It's back to finding another substation to go to. The USPS outlets now all seem like this. They assume everyone wants Priority service. I think they all go to training that makes them this way. Just venting..

As an alternative, you can indicate on the package the rate you want it to go (First Class Parcel, in your example), and put enough postage on the package to cover it.
You could also print out the postage label from either ebay or PayPal and attach it to the package. You would also get a discount in the postage rate.
There will be no discussion with the postal clerk as to what method of mailing you want since your package is all set to be placed in the mail stream. You may want the clerk to scan the packages in so that you have a receipt of actual submittal to the post office. You will want to do that especially if you use postage stamps so that you get the tracking number to add the shipping information on ebay.
The clerk was merely doing her job, albeit probably doing it "too well". Her letting you the customer know what options you have to mail the package is most likely part of her job performance evaluation.

I print all the postage thru Ebay / Paypal myself, and then request a package pickup the next day. Most of what I use is Media Mail. Only had one package problem this year out of 350 or so. Gave up dealing with the government employees years ago. Tired of the feeling that they were more interested in performing their duty for the camera behind them, than to me paying for the services I want. Print your own and put out the red flag.

My limited experience is that the processing & receipt is the same, but there is a line item credit for (something like) "Customer Supplied Postage".
