Hi Rich, if I recall you have an SG Concise, if you go to the page there are notes below the listing. The 5th, 6th and 7th paragraphs explain the visible differences.
If anyone else needs a copy I will scan and post it in thread.
I hope you don't regret starting this. These issues have defied some of the most experienced collectors around. This might set you on your way (Waterlow versus Del la Rue): How to identify GB high value Castles from 1955 onwards.
There is another post just a bit further down which compares De la Rue with Bradbury.
Ningpo, That's a nice set of images, will have to print that one off for reference.
Much easier though to see the differences on mint stamps, the hard ones are the used, washed and generally three times around the block heavy cancellations. Though sometimes the dates can help.
As you say a nightmare to identify at times.

Great help in deciding which is which the pictures are very fine and thank you for the time spent to answer the question. It always amazes me someone out there has the solution
Rich
Having just started a collection of QE11 pre decimal I have met my first road block, the Castles how to tell the difference between Waterlow and Del la Rue.
