I bought a Nicaragua collection back in the 1980s without realizing what I was getting into. It has been more of a challenge than I anticipated. I've sold much of the collection, piece by piece, in recent years, but hadn't tackled the telegraph stamps because they're not listed in Scott.

I found Steve Panting's "Telegraph Stamps of the World" site 2 or 3 years ago, but didn't have time to work with the Nicaragua telegraph stamps. In recent weeks I've begun scanning the stamps to sell. In the process of doing that, I've been in touch with Steve and shared a scan of one page from this old collection last month. I'll also be sharing a few scans of individual stamp varieties that Steve doesn't have as well as a few of mine that may be better copies than he is showing on the web site.

As I was getting ready to share that same page here at SoR this morning, I got ambitious and scanned a second page from this 1950s era French album to share. The pages are too large to scan in once piece. So they are scanned in two pieces and then stitched together. They're kind of large, but I wanted them to be large enough to get a good sense of the stamps and the info the pages contain.

re: NICARAGUA telegraph stamps 1894 to 1905

In 1928, 1929 and 1936, a few telegraph stamps were overprinted and surcharged to make them valid for postal use. Some telegraph stamps were also similarly treated for use as postal tax stamps in 1928, 1929 and 1936. Also, one telegraph stamp was overprinted for use in Zelaya (Scott# 1L92).

re: NICARAGUA telegraph stamps 1894 to 1905

This collection didn't have any of the 1928 or the 1936 overprinted/surcharged stamps or the Zelaya stamp. It included three of the 1929 stamps.

I also have 5 of the Bluefields "B" overprints on telegraph stamps. I have two varieties of Steve's RH5/H5 as well as unlisted varieties of RH9/H9, RH19/H19 and RH21/---. Who knows if they're authentic or not.

The varieties seem to be endless, especially when we're dealing with multiple overprints and surcharges.
