Funny, I could have sworn I read that this 'topic' was no more ?
Topic that is, not thread (Just to avoid any confusion).
Moderator Comment: You are correct. Our Web Wizard will be taking care of it as soon as he can find his magic wand! I have moved this thread to the Member Announcement topic.

That is awesome!!!
Can somebody spell out what the traveling mousepad was/is? Looks like people had fun with it.
Doug, none of my pictures are in the group you posted, but it was nice to see them again. Well, actually now that I think about it, I think most of my pictures were from the second year. This looks mostly like the first year, although I do see some from the second year too.
Ernie, "The Traveling Mousepad" was a fund raising campaign fr the American Red Cross that was organized by Doug back in the day of the old StampWants. We did it twice. The mousepad was sent to those who wanted to participate, and we took pictures showing the travels of the mousepad. The second year was different in that not only did the mousepad travel about, but those who had it created a story about the time that the mousepad was with them.
Thanks Michael... sounds like a hoot. I remember somebody mentioning it on the board a long time ago.

There was one pic in there from in front of the old McNeil post office: https://goo.gl/photos/mGBaTXhZNJq3anT87
I don't have any of the others, though.

Michael is close, but it was the American Heart Association Heartwalk in Cleveland in 2007 that started it. After losing my Grandmother, my family rallied and participated in the HeartWalk in her honor. I (hesitantly) solicited sponsorship in the StampWants forums, but the generosity and outpouring of support was tremendous. At that time, StampWants was also distributing their promotional mousepads, so in response to the generous donations, I wore the symbolic mousepad around my neck and took pictures at various landmarks along the way, then came back home and posted them in the forum. Doug with the Mousepad here, and Doug with the Mousepad there. Folks enjoyed it, so an idea was born to, in preparation for the following year, send the mousepad around to various StampWants Community members to "tour the country", then hold a charity auction to auction the mousepad off. The photos in the link were taken with the mousepad by all the various participants, who signed the mousepad and sent it on to the next participant. The mousepad was personified and lovingly names the 'Traveling Mousepad', or "TM" for short. It was almost like the Queen's Commonwealth Tour! Well, maybe not that dramatic, but you get the picture. As you can see by the map below (which is incomplete as it did make it to Hawaii), the support was tremendous, and it ended up going international with over 53,000 miles traveled as the crow flies. We had to call it back and people where left on the waiting list so that we could hold the auction in time for the proceeds to be donated to the AHA in time for the next Heartwalk.
The auction was held, and thanks to the unbelievable generosity of folks, a significant amount was raised and donated to the cause. One donor in particular is a very active member here (larsdog), and I will never forget his wonderful outpouring of support!
This was just year one. We had a few more years of other great ideas, charity auctions of generously donated stamp lots (including Columbians and Zepps!) and other fun, but this one was truly hard to beat.
Thanks for hearing me ramble on, but that's pretty much the majority of the story.
I saw the McNeil photo. I guess that's the only one from the first year. Talk about trying to remember these!
I looked through my hard drive. Looks like I might not have all the pictures from PhlatStampley. Am I remembering this correctly? Anyway, here are a few.
That was such a bright idea. I actually stole the idea for our local coffee house, and we ran a contest of the travelling logo paper cup for it. It was a hoot, and it even resulted in an art show with the best photos posted on the coffee house walls for a month. Boy I wish I could find some of my photos...I have just one I can easily locate.
No I did not win the contest, but someone ended up with free coffee for a year!
You brought back some memories...
rrr...
Today has been an active day in the HipStamp forums. As a result, Mark has come through and found the old photos that were once thought to be lost forever! For those who remember, there are a lot of good memories here. I have saved them to my own Google Photos site to ensure I don't lose them again!
Feel free to view and contribute anything you have that might be missing, but I think most are there!
