Think it is Charleroy aka Charleroi
Mike
That's an interesting puzzle.
I agree with meostamps.
At one time the Belgian city of Charleroi was also called "Charleroy" and this spelling question wasn't officially resolved until 1880.
I guess this is an old postmark or just an old-fashioned postmark that was still in use.
Yes that would fit, I thought it had a "P" there but I can see it being an "H".
I like to mark down the decipherable postmarks on stamps I come across.
Thanks guys
Brian
Found another "Charleroy" postmark. I guess the post office was not going to retire a perfectly good postmark just because the city spelling had changed 30 years ago!
I was looking at the postmark on this stamp and can't figure out the town. There should be 1 or 2 letters before "PARLEROY" judging from the centering but I haven't been able to find anything. I thought someone on Stamporama would know the complete name, unless it has disappeared.
I think the stamp is Scott 151 or 151a.
Thank you all
Brian
