Stamp mount cross reference tool at http://www.stampsmarter.com/features/Mount_CrossRef.html

This tool allows you to enter the stamp mount height you are interested in and it returns all major mount manufacturer (Scott/Prinz, Showgard, Lighthouse, Hawid, and Uni-Safe ) part numbers, dimensions, description, pack size, and price.

Feedback welcome. Note: I am still adding images for a few of the mounts. If anyone has images of the missing ones and can contribute them please post in this thread.

Also coming soon, 'stamp mount lookup' for any US stamp by Scott number.

re: Stamp Mount Cross Reference Tool

Thank you all for the feedback.

Here is a sneak peek at the new US Stamp Mount Finder; http://www.stampsmarter.com/features/Mount_USScott.html

Note: I only have mount database loaded for Scott numbers #1 through #1419. If you select a Scott number higher than 1419 it will return ‘Mount data not loaded yet!” message.

I am showing mounts that match on height and any ‘greater than and or equal to’ width. This captures the precut mounts and the strips; it should be assumed that wider lengths (strips) will have to be trimmed.

It also contains ‘album dimensions’. These are useful for folks who design their own album pages; you can use these dimensions to draw the boxes on any US album page for that Scott number.

Obviously this is still under development but this means that any suggestions for improvement are easier to design in. Please feel free to offer input. In the meantime, I will continue to populate the mount dimension database. It will probably take me a few more weeks to get all US stamp done.

re: Stamp Mount Cross Reference Tool

Thank you Benque. This has not been as much work as the US plate number database which has over 57,000 plate numbers loaded in it! In fact, since I already had all the US stamp (including Back Of Book) represented with the US Plate Block Tool and the PopUp catalogs for all US and Canadian stamps this effort has not been too bad.

Special thanks go to those who have contributed images and to my wife and best friend Dawn, who has also done a lot of the data entry.

re: Stamp Mount Cross Reference Tool

Don

With reference the reference tool I note, as far as I can see, that the sizing does not take into account the actual mount height.

For example if I select 29mm it will bring up the 29mm mount from Lighthouse but I know for a fact that Lighthouse mounts are actually 4mm deeper than the size shown on the label, i.e. they are in fact 33mm.

Is the '4mm' extra standard for all manufacturers mounts? meaning if I require a mount that is actually 29mm deep I could select 25mm?

I actually possess the whole suite of standard lighthouse mounts but I need to order special mounts for plate blocks and I would like to order these in confidence as they are quite pricey.

re: Stamp Mount Cross Reference Tool

Hi Richmond,
Yes, the tool uses the millimeters that the manufacturer uses for identification and reflects what is printed on the package to avoid confusion and to be consistent across each manufacturer. But as you state, the actual physical dimension of the mounts are larger, it accounts for a few millimeters of the sealed part of the mount at the top and bottom.

I THINK that the 4 mm you see is fairly standard across the board. But this has to be verified, I only looked at 3 of the manufacturers and do not have every size.

If you are willing to supply the actual physical dimensions of each of the Showguards I will add a new field to the database to display this info. Otherwise i will put this on my list of things to do.

Hi Don

Here are the physical dimensions of the whole suite of 217mm strips for the Lighthouse range

My view is that Lighthouse may have confused things and not taken into account

there are those that use pre-printed album pages (I use Lighthouse and Steiner)
there are those who design their own album pages
there are those who purchase blank quadrille pages and do their own thing.

The Lighthouse referencing system as far as I can see only applies to the third group - its based on proving 4mm all around for a stamp of x height (excluding perforations) .

Groups one and two are trying to find mounts which fit neatly into pre-printed boxes on the album pages and thus the Lighthouse referencing system becomes redundant.

This is why I am struggling with establishing what sort of mounts I need to purchase for miniature sheets. I know the size I want but cannot confidently convert this size into an off the shelf product and order. This is where I was hoping your tool would have helped me

I am happy to post or email scans of the cardboard strips if you wanted to verify my measurements (this is the cardboard strip at the back which is a replica of the mounts not the label at the front which is larger than the mounts)
