In my 2009 Scott catalogue this set of 6 flowers is priced only as a set at a mind boggling price of $40 for 6 stamps. There is a vague sentence saying that nr. 718 may not have been officially released, but what I would like to know is how much the individual stamps would be worth. My estimate is apart from #718 not much, because I have all the others :-)
Does anyone know more about this, perhaps because of access to other, better catalogues? Or does the latest edition of the Scott catalogue list the stamps individually?

re: North Vietnam Sc. 718-723

Scott 2017 only lists the six stamps as a set. No change in value. Gibbons lists the stamps as #N763-767 (set of five). Gibbons does not list the 6xu stamp (Scott #718) in my Gibbons catalog (2008). The other stamps are valued by Gibbons unused at either 60p (N763-765) or 90p (N766-767: Bach Mi; Dai Doa). Used, the stamps are all valued at 40p. There is no note about the unlisted stamp.

That seems to be in line with what I found in my old Michel. The 6xu is 30 euros and the other 5 have more or less minimum value. That makes the Scott price for the set very misleading.

The StampWorld.com online catalogue does not list the 6xu value, and lists the others (with different issue dates than shown in Scott) with values of .80 each MNH.

Those are not the correct set. The Gibbons Numbers are as I stated: N763-N767.

The ones you show the picture of, and the catalog listing are Scott #731-738, set of 8.

"Right. The 6xu seems to only appear in Scott."

Like JanSimon wrote, it is listed in Michel as well.
A756 - 30€.
Rest of the set 756-758,774-775 is somewhat minimum value items.

And here's the reason (true story): the stamp was released but no copies of it were delivered to philatelic sales/agencies. As such when collectors (especially in the west) find out about it, most had been used to pay local postage. Here's some talk (and images of both postally used and mint) on it at Vietnamese stamp forum: http://www.vietstamp.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3898&page=2

re: North Vietnam Sc. 718-723

My North Viet Nam Specialized Postage Stamps Catalogue lists a set of four stamps, including the 6 xu. As far as I know, this catalogue, published in 1995, is out of print, but eBay seller Drawtan is currently offering one for US $35. I believe that Drawtan is the distributor of the catalogue. I thought my copy from him several years ago. He apparently operates a charity, the Mekong Education Fund, Inc. in San Diego.

Here's the listing of the stamps, followed by an image of the cover of the catalogue:

Both North and South Vietnam printed but didn't issue a number of stamps. A few South Vietnam stamps failed to make it into the post offices because of the North Vietnamese victory in 1975, but they are readily available.

I've found the North Vietnam catalogue very useful. It includes some North Vietnamese philatelic history and listings of the stamps of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (1945-1946), North Vietnam (1946-1976), including BOB, plus military franks, officials, postal stationery, and the stamps of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (Viet Cong).

So, it looks like he's missing two of the stamps from the set, but has the "controversial" 6xu listed. Stamp catalogs can drive one to drink. Excuse me while I go get a shot of cactus juice.

The two "missing" stamps are probably not missing in this catalogue, but listed separately just as Michel does. Those are the ones that have been issued later and have black letters instead of white.

I know alot of people prefer the catalogs to list stamps by issue date, meaning a chronological listing. For me this is where I prefer Scott's practice, for the most part, of listing sets together.
