The truth is within and only you can reveal it

I had planned on starting a new showing of World B.O.B (back of bock) stamps. However there are still some more regular issues that are probably worth showing.

For today I'm showing a selection of Italian Possessions. Early on most stamps for it's possessions were Italian stamps that received overprints of the unit to be serviced, so many of the stamps are very similar. Later on new and unique issues were inscribed with each possessions name. It is a difficult area to collect as many of the stamps are rarely seen for sale. Most collections are quite weak in this area.

Shown are 6 pages which show many of the different types.

Shown are the first and only page of regular issues and the first and only airmail page.

For today what is probably the last page in most world wide collections; Zululand.
It is another country that I seldom come by.

re: A-Ra's Page of the Day Part XIII

For today a few things I won at auction today. The first is a key Great Britain stamp. Despite the obvious take-a-ways it is a stamp I doubted I would ever get because of the $2,900 cat value and desirability. I would hope someday to find a better one to replace with but for now makes a good enough space filler. I hardly ever add stamps this damaged to my collection but at less than 2% of cat I would have no trouble getting my money back.

The second stamp is the high value of the second type of French postage dues. It is another key stamp that I have been wanting for a long time. Although the scan is not great it compares well, line for line, with others from the set so I am hoping it is not a forgery. This one was also a bit less than 2%, so either way it's still a decent space filler. The top and bottom short perfs are rolled over backwards but should straighten out with a good soaking.

The last are the three Red Cross souvenir sheets from occupied Germany 1949. These are one of the very few items I am missing for all of Germany so they are greatly welcomed, especially for the $30.00 hammer price of the over $300 cat value.

Very nice indeed. Having just started collecting colonial Africa it was good to see your stamps. Recently purchased the 1888 set of Zululand overprints.

All in all enjoying colonial Africa, notwithstanding the horrific history, highlighted in large part by Leopold II.

The 1931 series of SouthWest Africa stamps you depict are wonderful.

Cheers,
Eric

Colonial Africa was my focus when I was collecting. Great stamps and an extraordinary period in world history. I did a lot of reading in association with my collecting. It was enlightening to say the least.

I'm still fascinated by that era and Africa generally. Have you watched any of the PBS series on African civilizations?

Keesindy, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.
Thanks for the link and info on the PBS series. I will pursue it.

Working on Egypt. Very nice stamps, in large part because of King Fuad and King Farouk, who were stamp collectors with the power to influence the design and process. At least up to 1952.

Cheers!

Oh! Didn't know they were collectors, but that does help explain Egypt's stamps during their reigns.

It is another country I have not devoted a lot of time to because of the high prices and
competition in bidding. Like most British Colonies I hope to start concentrating on it
in upcoming years.
