Hi,
Have used Stamp Album Studio for years on and off.

Problem:
The software crashes with a "Runtime error 217 at 000DC44D" if I try running it on Windows 10. I find I can run it for a time if I open it with "Run as administrator" for a time but it crashes after a while of running.

Notified the creators years ago but they never came up with a solution, so I gave up.

Now I've resurrected the software to try and salvage the work I've done on the software
and it still crashes after a time.

Anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks for any feedback.j

Hi Gerry,
Have you tried running the app in Compatibility mode?

1. Right-click on an app and select Properties
2. Select the Compatibility tab, then check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for
3. Select the version of Windows you want to run it in

re: Stamp Album Studio

I cannot give you direct answer, because I am unsure of the sequence which caused this problem (i.e., if/when you upgraded to Win10, started after a Windows update or other program installation...).

However, it can be generalized that the Runtime error 217 is typically caused by one of the following problems:

-- outdated .dll files (e.g., Msvcrt.dll) or dcom file
-- missing/corrupted .tlb files (e.g., StDole32.tlb)
-- incorrect region settings
-- software virus
-- corrupted registry

If you updated to Win10 and there were no problems previously, then the .dll/.tlb file problems are unlikely.

The incorrect region setting causing this error does not happen often, but it's easy to check your region settings.

If you already own a registry cleaner, I would advise running it to find/correct any errors. Assuming you upgraded to Win10, it is very likely your problem is registry related (i.e., a registry setting has been corrupted somewhere -- it happens a LOT more than people realize).

Be very careful of downloading those free/trial registry cleaners. Many of the free ones tend to install some other programs/toolbars/apps... I would only use registry cleaners from established reputable companies. You can check CNET, PCWorld... websites for reviews that will list reputable registry cleaners. There are a couple of free ones that will probably do the trick for you, but registry cleaners are so cheap, it can't hurt to invest in one if you don't already have an internet/virus/system utility software that comes with a registry cleaner. Plus, remember, even the recommended free ones may try to install other software, although the recommended ones will usually have an opt-out during the installation process (make sure you unclick to opt-out, because the defaults are to install everything).

Hope you get the problem solved...

Thanks khj,

Guess I wasn't clear on the scope of the problem. It has been on going since Windows XP. I've upgraded to 7 then 10 and the problem has persisted through all operating systems and years.

Anyway, I upgraded to Stamp Album Studio 4.6 and that seems to have taken care of the problem(s).

Like the added features on the new software also.

I hope my experiences will help others.

Thanks to all for your input.

The upgrade would have corrected any registry problems associated with the program and updated any necessary files. Glad you got the problem solved!
