Yes, it is amazing what images people post for items they want to sell even when it deals with expensive stamps. The image is part of the creating sales appeal.
These lessons apply to more than "a stamp auction site. "
They apply to our own auction section.
I skip one seller in particular due to his, or her,
tiny and sometimes blurry scans.
During nthe time when I have skipped over huis offerings I have managed to buy or win close to 9,000 lots. I suppose it is only a speculation, but I think the odds are good that I might have chosen ay least one of his lots, had I been able to see what was being offered clesrly, without using a magnifier.
Hope that wasn't me, I do try to make my scans as good as possible, but reducing image size does not help. Hopefully someone will tell me if they have problems with my scans.
Have just been looking online at a stamp auction and am appalled by the lousy photos which, apart from being mostly out of focus, show so few a number of stamps / pages that it is impossible from the given description to formulate any idea of the value or content.
As an example one item describes 272 stamps and the image is of one page showing just 5 stamps.
How on earth do they expect people to bid on these sort of lots.
If only all the auction houses would follow Catawiki's lead in having scan / image of each page.
OK rant over, time for a cuppa.
