I have always liked science fiction like X-minus 1, some mystery shows like The Whistler, and of the Carlton E Morse shows I liked I Love Adventure. One of the most memorable was an Inner Sanctum show where the recording captured initial news on Pearl Harbor attack.
University of California at Santa Barbara Library has the national archive of wax cylinder recordings. It is a great, free resource.

I was on a 4 hr road trip (2 up/2 back) and listened to episodes of The Whistler.
For lovers of old radio programmes I discovered a site:- www.RadioEchoes.com
The quality for some of the earlier programmes is not the best.
Under their comedy list there are the British standards but also American Shows.
