Not about stamp collecting per se but "Going Postal by Terry Pratchett" is an entertaining read which includes perhaps some insight (for better or worse) into our world.
I'm sure there are novels that are more inclined to collecting.
Hi everyone;
Just Google "stamp collecting in novels". I did and several came up, including one with a penny
black stuck on a bird's beak! It even mentioned the SOR thread that Ernie just referenced.
happy readin'....

There was an article in Linns sometime back about a novel that centered around a rare Nazi stamp that if discovered, threatened to rewrite the history books and completely change the post ww2 geopolitical landscape. Of course multiple parties were on the hunt for the stamp for very different reasons and several people got whacked. Sounds like an entertaining book! It's available for download from Amazon for $4
But I hate reading anything of any length on a device.
The Stamp Collector by David Benedictus.
He sells stamps at the Charing Cross Collectors Market in London.
Good read, x-rated I would say but lots of stamps.
Londonbus1......not enough stamps !
I stumbled across another movie "The Mandarin Mystery" (1936) on youtube that turned out to be an Ellery Queen movie based upon a book.
From IMDB...
Two murders are committed and a $50,000 Chinese Mandarin stamp is stolen, tossed around and eventually recovered as an aggregation of costly-stamp counterfeiters are uncovered through the mastermind investigation by Ellery Queen.
Lawrence Block has written several books which feature Keller, who is a hit man and a stamp collector. Block also wrote a series of articles on stamp collecting for Linn's a year or so ago.
Bigcreekdad,
I have a hardback titled "The Chalon Heads" by Barry Maitland.
A Kathy and Brock Mystery
You can probably google it to find out more about it.
From the dustcover: "...When detective Chief Inspector David Brock and Detective Sergeant Kathy Kolla of Scotland Yard are summoned to Cabot's, a venerable dealer in rare stamps on the Strand, they expect a simple case of theft and a pleasant digression from the usual sort of wrongdoing they encounter in the serious crime branch of the Yard. But the matter they're presented is far more unsettling.....It seems Sammy's young wife has been kidnapped; but the strange part is that the ransom notes are decorated with rare and valuable Chalon Head Stamps of the young Queen Victoria..."
If you'd like this book Bigcreekdad, I'll give it to you. If you dont want it, I'll offer it free to anyone that wants it. (I'm trying to clean up my stamp area)
Kind Regards,
Dave N.
I am just into a novel that has, as some background, serious collecting of old maps. Although just barely into it, I am intrigued. Are there any such novels that might have stamp collecting as a backdrop?
