They are designed more or the stamp. If you put them in a mount, it will usually cover the border.

re: Steiner Pages

Just over a year ago I decided to sign up for the Steiner pages. The options were CD or on-line, both around the same cost, but I recall there being some issue with him sending the CD to Canada.

As a result, I got the online subscription which just ran out. Probably my own stupidity not checking the terms and conditions, but I hadn't considered that and so unfortunately I only downloaded a few things, not everything I wanted. (Probably only a couple dozen more countries and only to the 1970s-80s).

Question: Does anyone have a current CD I could "borrow"? I can return it afterwards if needed. If so, let me know your terms and conditions.

FYI, I don't want to deprive Steiner of his just compensation, but I would have liked to get my money's worth from the online service. So I will figure out something reasonable and send him a PayPal payment afterwards.

Please email me instead of responding to this message.

Thanks, Dave.

If you have an expired subscription, the revised/edited pages section is still available to you. That may help a little bit, especially if you're working on the changes to the Ceres issue from the Portuguese colonies.

Also, for future reference, you can get both the online service, and a CD at the same time. You pay full price for one, and get the second for half price.

re: Steiner Pages

I wonder how many people end up getting more than one subscription from Steiner for just those reasons.

However, "loaning" someone else his CD would be an infraction of copyright laws...

"Copyright Notice. Your purchase of a website membership, or a CD-ROM disc, entitles you to use the stamp album page files for the personal use of you or your immediate family. This is the only use you can make of the files or CD-ROM discs. You may not use them in any commercial activity, such as selling pages printed from the files, or reselling the CD-ROM discs. Also, you may not share the files or CD-ROM's with other people, such as a group of friends or members of your stamp club, even if you do this without charge. These same restrictions apply to any CD-ROM discs you buy from any of the Licensed Sources listed on the Printed Pages website page."

Related to the OP question...if you use black mounts, you will likely cover up the box frame, but if you use clear mounts, which is what I do, the box frame will nicely 'frame' the stamp.

"...why people renew annually..."

Al:

Others may have different reason(s) but mine was three-fold:

1) I wasn't sure what I wanted to collect yet, so was fairly picky about the countries/years I downloaded.

2) I didn't have enough spare time to download even that I (along the way) did decide I wanted.

3) I forgot that I only had a year.

Bottom line, now that I have a better idea of the albums I want to create I ran into the expiry date - so now have to reboot.

For anyone who isn't interested in all the new issues, the CD is - in retrospect - the far better option.

Cheers, Dave.

re: Steiner Pages

I used to renew annually when I was printing out alot of the newest pages for countries. Scott doesn't issue pages for many countries. Also, for many countries, Scott omits miniature sheets, larger blocks and such that are given major catalog numbers. I haven't been working on 21st century stamps all that much over the past few years, so my subscription has lapsed, although another reason I renewed annually was to support his efforts.

I have the CD from a couple of years ago, and I have used the online page corrections section now and then. That is all I need for now for the areas that I have been working on. When I resume working on 21st century stamps like I had before, I'll renew again. Mighet be in a year or so when I'm ready for that.

When Bill first put out these pages ,they were free and you could download them give them to friends.
I downloaded every single country and have them all on CD.Each country came with this message,

Will this still hold for the pages I have?As most modern countries only go up to around 2000 on my files which is before he started to charge for them.

I was getting a bit confused with the subscriptions - it would appear (to me)that the combined subscription only allows you to download updates - have I read this correctly?

I was hoping that the combined subscription would give me the option of downloading off the CD or off the web. Can anyone advise further

re: Steiner Pages

If you subscribe to both the online page and the CD, you get full access to all the pages online, and of course you get the CD with all the pages that were available at the time you subscribed. During your subscription year, new pages get added to the online site. You have full access to everything on the site during that year. You do not get a new CD each month.

After your subscription expires, you can renew it and continue access to the site. You can also buy the CD that will contain all the pages that are available at the time that you buy it, and then you have another year of access to all the pages on the site.

If you do not renew, then you have the CD (which is one year old), and you continue to have access to the revised pages section of the site, but only that section.

re: Steiner Pages

I've been subscribing to Bill Steiner's Stamp Album pages since 2006 and I've been renewing every year since 2006. I started originally with Scott Specialty pages in the early 2000's, but I couldn't find pages for many countries, since Linn's/Amos wasn't up to speed with Scott Album. I came across Bill Steiner in the back of Linn's, so I gave it a try. Best move I made, sold all of my Scott albums and never looked back.

I've only used the on-line version, that's more than adequate for me.

I'm a worldwide collector, starting with Scott #1 to about 1985 and some cases 2000. That equates to about 140-150 volumes in 1-1/2" binders, using 28lb Hammermill paper (Digital Color paper).

The pages are 99.9% correct, I try updating the album pages each month when Bill posts the corrections.

With such a large collection, I been organizing albums. I use Adobe Acrobat Standard (not the reader) to add my name at the bottom of each page, page number and date of download or correction. Very quick & easy to do.

I noticed that Steiner has corrected the pages for Yemen (April 30, 2018 correction file) for the issues from the late 1960s to early 1970s. These look as if they now have the correct sized spaces for the large "wall paper" stamps that Scott added to the listings a few years ago.

re: Steiner Pages

In Steiner pages, the borders are slightly larger than the stamps. I mount most stamps in black Scott mounts and usually the mount completely covers the printed border - probably 95% of the time. One draw back with Steiner pages - there are no Scott numbers printed - I simply pencil them all in. Also every stamp has it's own completely separate border - which I have grown to like - not having to mount 4-8 stamps in a long mount - necessary with Scott Specialty and Minkus albums - which I first used.

I had the same problems as well with size with my old printer. When I got my new printer, I was able to get full-size printing of the Steiner pages. My setting, however, was not "actual size", but "no scaling". So depending on your printer, it could be either of those settings (and maybe others depending on what they call "actual size"!
