Pleased to have found Stamporama.
I have been collecting for 61 years. I collect all world although I get rid of 'so-called stamps' from places like Ajman - Equatorial Guinea. They are worthless to me and many are not detailed in official catalogues. I am also very interested in Zeppelin Post, 1st & 2nd World War issues, Colonial/Empire - British, French, German and Netherlands, Occupied Territories and Post Offices Abroad. Stamp collecting for me is all about world history and geography.
I'm currently reorganising my entire collection and although I've never been in for the resale value, I am cataloguing the collection on Stanley Gibbons on line which is aimed at giving me a rough idea of value for insurance purposes. Unfortunately, their site is not to date with no listings being added sine 2010!
My collection started when a great aunt moved to New Zealand in the early 1950s. My mother kept all the postage stamps we received and then when I was 4 she gave them to me with a Stanley Gibbons junior album, a stamp catalogue, stamp hinges, tweezers and magnifier and with those, I was hooked and have been ever since.
I currently live in France, having left the UK 10 years ago and now that I'm retired, I spend as much time as possible on my collection; it is my principal pastime.

Hey, a Stanley Gibbons user! That makes (I'm guessing here) about a dozen of us.
It does not surprise me that their site has not been updated for seven years (their last listed Ukraine stamp dates from 2008!) - but it is a pity and unsurprising that nearly all European collectors now use Michel (and American collectors use Scott, of course). In France you have both Yvert and Ceres.
Many serious collectors on this site use more than one catalogue, but cross-referencing, say, Michel numbers with SG is no easy task.
Anyway, welcome to this website, and if you have any queries about WW2 issues and commemorations, let me know!

I also use Gibbons for stamp details and varieties, but have found that the
S.G. "values" in the SG listings tend to be wildly optimistic.
