You beat me to it. When I heard it on the radio yesterday, my thoughts were that I had to check out Tragically Hip's music again - used to play it quite often, but somehow forgot about them and that they had their own stamp, like a few other rock bands I like.
Sad news...
Today I heard Justin Trudeau speak about Gordon Downie. Apparently they were friends. It was an emotional speech. Not a politician speaking but a human being who had just lost someone dear to him...

The Tragically Hip are definitely a Canadian institution, the soundtrack of my youth and beyond. I picked up their first album in 1987 and was hooked.
We lost a legend, to be sure. His music, poetry and his tireless work shedding light on the horror residential schools brought on to the lives and culture of Canada's First Nations peoples, all amazing.
So glad they band was honoured on a stamp, bringing to very special things I love together.
RIP Gordie..
Gordon Downie (wearing the hat in the image below), lead singer of the Tragically Hip passed away yesterday. He was truly a Canadian Legend and story teller.
As seen by the image above The band was commemorated on a Canadian stamp in 2013.
