#1 Mexico revenue
#2 is a French Charity stamp/Cinderella "The Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism"
#3 is a French revenue stamp.
#5 is Turkey Scott 42 I believe.
#4 is a 2.25r value, and without the overprint was a stamp that collected tax on telegrams. It is not a postal tax stamp. It is a telegram tax stamp, and thus not listed by Scott.
With the overprint, I do not have information on what the overprint is for.
Michael,
Your ID is much better than mine. But, I am curious. How do you tell that it is a 2.25r value? Is it because of the color or is it written in the Arabic symbols? After looking in Scott, I realized that the color on #4 did not match the colors for RA1 - RA11.
Mel
The four Arabic symbols at the right end of the bottom line are the value, "2/25"
As for no.2, Google is your friend. There is a useful page on Wikipedia about the Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchévisme - all you have to do is look it up. Additionally, these stamps have been discussed a few times in Stamporama before - try using the search facility.
I realise this advice is less useful when trying to identify stamps with hardly any familiar lettering at all, as with the other four.
Thanks for the info, guys!
Ian, before I ever ask for help here, I always believe that I've exhausted the resources I have at hand. Even then, I'm not typically looking for the full story, only a leg up to a path I can follow to further my own research.
Thanks again for the help,
WB
we've discussed the LVF stamps several times, including here: https://stamporama.com/discboard/disc_main.php?action=20&id=4183#24438 and even written articles about it: https://stamporama.com/articles/display_article.php?id=RAdTEHE8XTX0.
David, that's a beautifully written article, I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the link!
When doing the initial research, I was looking only for information on the stamp itself, not content of the subject matter. Lesson learned.

WB,
of course, I just remembered this because I learned about LVF from SOR myself. Liz and Lee helped school me, then Bob I had even more background, naturally.
I know more about the unit than I do about its postal history. I'd love to learn more myself
David
Yep, Google is our friend, but so is SOR.

Just finished mounting a couple of thousand stamps, but couldn't seem to find any info on these five.
I thought I had seen a thread about what I think is the Iranian O/P,(#4) but couldn't seem to find that either.
Any help greatly appreciated.
