Interesting variety. What causes ink stripping?

re: 1942 5½d Emu block of 10 with ink stripping

Hi smauggie

Apologies for the delay. Ink stripping is normally caused by residual cleaning fluid being left on the plate which prevented the proper adhesion of the ink and was lifted when the doctor blade passed over the plates.

With the exception of the "white wattles", this particular ink stripping was caused by weak plates and the wrong ink solution in 1937.

Below is a rare and unique progressive ink stripping on just four stamps of the 1949 wallaroo (small kangaroo), progressing from top right to left and then bottom right to left, caused by the same error with the emu.
