"I would like to modify the auction rules in such a fashion that once a bid has been placed on an item, the BIN feature should no longer be a part of the process (disappears) ... As it is now, what StampoRama is doing is placing a cap on the auction."
"Isn't the seller putting a cap on the auction value? As I understand it, 'Buy It Now' is a voluntary feature. The seller is in essence saying, "If you meet this price, it's yours". Once that price is met, the conditions of sale have been met, meeting the seller's hoped for price. If the seller expects that the sale value will be higher, then they would either not activate the BIN feature or set the value higher. "
Michael is correct. It is not intended to function the same as eBay, where a BIN also serves as a CAP, but only until.....
I sincerely appreciate your comments, whatever works.
However, one other BIN comment. There are a number of sellers here who post an item for auction and then make the BIN price the exact same amount. While that may be within the rules, I would maintain it is not an auction, but a for sale. Classified ad?

As one of those sellers that puts the auction price the same as the BIN I must mention the reason why I do this.
a) Mainly on this site once a member places a bid there is seldom a second bid placed by another member. Why? Probably because the members know one another and nobody will bid against the first bidder.
b) It allows members to buy an item straight away without having to wait days to see if their bid is successful. ( Over the past three months only 18% of items have sold as BIN ).
c) This is a "Club" NOT a commercial site.
d) The BIN price is what the seller is looking for. The seller could actually put the auction price he wants as his selling price then add another 10 - 20% as his BIN price and then those that want to purchase the lot straight away would be paying more ( a bit unfair for those buyers that prefer BIN ).
e) The seller may prefer to have BIN. It is their perogative under the rules.
f) Please remember that if there are no Sellers there can be no Buyers. Also the reverse is true. If there are no Buyers there can be no Sellers. So there must be a balance between Buyers and Sellers.
g) The system WILL NOT ALLOW a BIN price without an Auction price being listed.
In addition to what the fine gentleman from the UK said, I see placing the bid and BIN price the same as a boon to the buyer. If the price is right for the lot, you can lock up the sale without worrying about someone outbidding you.
To me, if you set the BIN now price the same as the minimum bid, then it is not an auction but essentially a classified ad (fixed price sale). I am not saying it is wrong but there is no bidding for lots listed this way. Right?
Do we really think two members will not bid against each other? If there is often only one bidder, it is because there are not many buyers.

A large percentage of auction lots receive no bids (sellers who list those lots over and over again need to reconsider about relisting them and try listing something else).
Of the auction lots that receive bids, it is true that most get one bid, but there are plenty that receive more bids than that.
There also are a few buyers who "fiercely" challenge other buyers in order to get what they want. I looked at the first page of auction lots that are closing in the next 24 hours. There are three lots there (will be gone soon) that have 9, 10 and 11 bids each. So it does happen. Auction lots that are seeing exceptional bidding action will show the "HOT" label.

I just read an industry article that reveals that only 12.5 percent of eBays income is from auctions. Seems that era is coming to an end. I have also listed my auction items on Stampirama with the same start and BIN price, simply because I don't like to wait up to two weeks for an auction to end as a buyer. Also with lower price items, it lets you confirm that you have bought enough to justify postage costs. There's nothing like bidding on a bunch of items from a seller to find you've been outbid, leaving you with a dollar shipping charge on a quarter item!
Hi Everyone;
As both a buyer on here and a seller, I agree with (Brechinite), and with, (BenFranklin1902), especially about the won lots vs. the postage.
So keep the BIN just like it is. As (Brechinite) would say "don't fix what isn't broke"

I would like to make a suggestion concerning the auction protocol here on StampoRama. It concerns the use of the Buy It Now (BIN) feature. At present, the BIN feature can be utilized at anytime, regardless of whether or not there is any bidding present.
I would like to modify the auction rules in such a fashion that once a bid has been placed on an item, the BIN feature should no longer be a part of the process (disappears). This change, it seems to me, would make the auction fairer to both the sellers and the prospective buyers. As it is now, what StampoRama is doing is placing a cap on the auction.
