Looks fairly genuine as the colon variety, no thins, minor perf damage and only slightly off centre.
If correct a nice start to the year.

Edit to correct title.

re: 1937 coronation colon after date figure

Great find, great reward for the sometimes tedious working through what appears to be an endless number of duplicates.

As someone who is just returning to collecting after many years away, I have a couple of questions:

My Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Concise catalogue (2008 - latest I own) has a blank for the used value of the Coronation "colon flaw" which is said to indicate "it exists, or may exist, but no market price is known." Has that value assessment by SG changed since 2008? The 2018 Scott Great Britain eCatalogue doesn't even list the colon flaw.

It's a find like this that prompts me to keep what seem like endless numbers of the same issue. I wonder, when you've determined that no treasure lurks within, what do you do with those myriad duplicates?

Congratulations,
Jim

re: 1937 coronation colon after date figure

Thanks Jim, the 2017 concise has no used value either. The specialized may have and perhaps someone else could advise.
There are in fact a large number of constant flaws known but not listed in SG. There is a book, published 1949 that lists them. http://www.worldcat.org/title/great-britain-the-coronation-stamp-1937-its-aberrations-flaws-abnormalities-etc-with-illustrations-and-a-plate/oclc/316014589
And no I do not have the book.
Regarding all the duplicates I tend to put them away in glassines, envelopes, and stockbooks after picking the best for my albums. Countries I do not collect eventually may get to be sold on here or elsewhere.

A great find. I searched thousands of these stamps and only came up with one "dot in oval" variety.

Congratulations.

The colon flaw is listed in the George VI specialised catalogue.
My copy is dated 1993.
The colon flaw was quoted at £3.00 for MNH while the standard stamp was quoted at £0.40 for MNH.
There was no price for used.

The colon flaw is now listed at £70 mint and 30p mint and used for the plain jane. 2018 Concise.
Does the GV1 list any of the other flaws?

You would have to make sure the teapot was on a plate before you poured the hot water into it otherwise you would have to lick up the chocolate from the table or the carpet!!

UUGGHHHHHH!

(all that carpet pile, dust mites and cat and dog hair!!!!)
