I was fortunate for years to have a local dealer who carried a decent range of Scott mounts, all I needed to do was to drive over there and buy a pack. For reasons i won't go into that is no longer an option for me. I have been ordering from Global in Olympia WA with great service and getting good quality. Some of the vendors on Ebay are it seems selling old stock and passing them off as 'new'.
I'd just sent off an order to Global and realized I needed a couple pack of 27 mm mounts. I saw a listing from a dealer in the St Louis area who described the mounts as new, and the listing said they were reducing stock. That ought to have been a warning. Anyway I ordered two packs and they arrived yesterday. They are yellow. Markedly so at the seams and look wrinkled in places, they are not new. I sent a message asking about them and if they were old stock.
Reply today, he replied that the packaging may have been discolored but that the mounts were not and also said they were NOT (he used caps) wrinkled. Excuse me, they are. And they are yellow. They may well look OK once I use them but it is annoying.
I am sending another order to Global this week and will just replace them with good mounts from there. I can use up the others on areas of my collection I am not so fastidious about. There are a few good dealers on Ebay that sell the good stuff. Sadly a lot of these people sell dreck. Lesson learned. Just a cautionary tale, FWIW.

There is a dealer in San Antonio who sells mounts on ebay. Not discounted, but the mounts are all new and fresh. Sorry, but I can't remember their name....

I have ordered 3 packs from a dealer on Hipstamps"texan1000" in the US ,as I was having a job finding large block mounts for my PNG sheetlets some of which are huge they are Scott's mounts which I haven't seen here in Australia.
Postage was $20-00 but it will be worth it to get my sheets mounted.

If you are buying 5 to 10 packs, Global is usually the best deal since they provide free shipping over $25.
If you are ordering with other products (makes up for free shipping) then there are a number of alternatives. If you are buying over $150 worth of mounts, you can get low prices and free shipping elsewhere.

This seller does not look to be dealing in stamp products to any extent. Much of his sales and feedback are for movie posters, etc. That ought to have been a flag here. Note he states it is 'new' unopened, etc. Then says they are reducing inventory. These mounts are 'new' in the sense only that they have not been cut and used. I'd guess they were hanging up in a display in a store for years.
i may send an additional reply to him but doubt I'll get anywhere. The discoloration is more apparent when viewing the mounts stacked together. Individually, it is not so bad. I showed them to my wife, not a collector, who said they look discolored to her, too.

I see some tempting boxes of mounts in auction house sales at 50% or less off regular but just not worth the risk on condition, size, etc. I got some Showgard mounts somewhere and they have wrinkled.

Your experiences are a useful heads-up to be careful on online purchases for all of us and, also, to not simply accept poorly described merchandise but follow-up on problematic items.

For the last couple of years I have been buying 'factory seconds' Showguard mounts. I ones I have been getting are 25 strips per package. I have found a few with small scratches but the vast majority are perfectly fine for my needs.

Don, I have purchased Showgard seconds and even though I got 2x for less than 2x the normal price it was always higher than Scott/Prinz. Showgards are stiffer so better than Scott/Prinz for self-adhesives but also like the Scott/Prinz black backs and lower cost.

A good mounts/supplies dealer on EBay that also has free shipping on orders over $25 is "bandgsales". (from Indiana) I have used them of late. I also have used Global Stamps in WA as others have suggested.
I have to add that I like Scott/Prinz mounts here in Florida better than Showgard. The former are in a case that helps keep the moisture out.

To his credit, the seller refunded my price and told me to toss them. I think maybe he was aware they were problematical. I have tossed them in a box of stuff I maintain to donate to the kids group at a local club.
