La Posta - The Journal of American Postal History is now online. La Posta is an independent quarterly journal devoted exclusively to the subject of American postal history. The site offers free Featured Articles and ‘Snapshots’ along with ways to subscribe, order back issues, and buy postal history books. As time goes by, more free articles and features will be added.

"The journal was founded by Richard “Bill” Helbock in 1969 and has today been continuously produced for 50 years. Helbock, who retired to Australia, died in 2011 and Peter Martin was chosen to replace him as editor. Martin purchased La Posta Publications, which included the journal, from Helbock’s widow in 2013.

La Posta is one of the few independent philatelic publications in North American and is the largest subscriber-based journal in that category. Each 64-page quarterly issue features a variety of the more than 50 different aspects of American postal history written by the leading postal history researchers, collectors, and dealers.

From town postal histories, Prexies, and expositions, to Civil War, auxiliary markings, modern contract stations and social philately you’ll find a cornucopia of original research, new finds and detailed information about interesting and complex subjects not found anywhere else.

"

Disclaimer: I offered to help the postal history community and La Posta by developing the site pro bono; I have no commercial connection to the site. If anyone has any technical issues and/or sees any coding errors you can contact me directly and I will address the concern. For editorial or publication questions please contact Peter or Joan through the website.

re: New La Posta - The Journal of American Postal History Website

Don,

Thank you so much for letting us know about the revival of LaPosta -truly great news for postal historians. I have a small stack and every time that I think I want to get rid of them I pick one up and change my mind. I suggest that those interested in postal history take a look at the site and consider subscribing.

There are a lot of postal history references out there. This article prompted me to go to Ebay and search for copies of "P.S. A Quarterly Journal of Postal History". I've searched in the past with no luck. I just bought 29 issues. For those not familiar with this it ties together postal history and contemporary events through the use of original source documents. The authors are Diane DuBois and Robert Dalton Harris. They are award winning researchers in general ephemera as well as postal history.

When I owned an antique shop back in the early 90's I had the pleasure of meeting them when they stopped into my shop looking for material. We had a good visit - the depth and breadth of their knowledge was incredible.

What a fascinating hobby ...

Just added a new online La Posta index covering the first 29 years (1969 thru 1997). Allows you to search La Posta back issues titles based upon Issue Number, year, author, or keyword(s). Will be adding the 1998 thru present over the next few weeks.
