I have this which seems familiar - as though I have seen it before - but have no idea what it is. Don't know which end is up so show it here in all 4 orientations.
Is it even a postage stamp, or is it something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

re: from region of China or Japan?

I'm on my way out the door for the day, so I don't have time to check my dictionary for a translation, but here's what I can answer:

-- number 1 is the correct orientation

-- I think it is Chinese, rather than Japanese (which is more my specialty), but I could be wrong

-- I am thinking it was cut from a postcard, where you would put a stamp

-- and, this is my speculation, it says something like "postage required" (but I could be entirely wrong about that). I do see a character that's associated with postal or postage. (That's the character in the north-east position on #1.)

Thank you. That may be what it is, probably from an envelope judging by the weight of the paper. And there is no sign of ever having gum on the back of it.
Something like "Place correct postage here"

Yes, it is a stamp box.

Yes, it is Chinese.

More or less: "place postage stamp here".

Cheers,
